What years had red springs and what years black?

Curious

Have you considered doing convertible trunk hinge springs? I have a guy bugging me for '61 Plymouth convertible trunk hinge springs off a rough car I have, but I don't want to sell just the springs. '61'-'62 Chrysler and Plymouth look the same - 2 springs per side. '60 Chrysler has one spring per side.

Interesting, dropped you a note, mwarsh1

56DodgeBoy, Depends on the year and the model. Sometimes the springs are painted body color on the assembly line having already been installed in the car. Example: 57 up Chrysler 300s.

The hood springs on my Canadian built ex-1960 Polara were painted red originally.

I have purchased two different sets of hood springs. Neither of them could hold up the hood of my 55 Chrysler like the originals do. If your building them to spec for 55, don't. I am betting they updated those specs to make them stronger and two different manufacturers have failed to make strong enough springs. My issue was with the tension at the most relaxed point of the spring, where the hood is closed. In the process of trying to fix that I got another problem keeping the hood open. A trade off I wasn't willing to make.

No my hood is pure steel. I got a set from Sweden and set from http://www.ebay.com/usr/vintageamericanpartscompany?_trksid=p205787...
They had the same problem.
