There is a 9 passenger wagon with heater delete that is listed in Darrell Davis book now for sale in Mexico City for $12,500. It has quite a few options. Until now there was the one in Japan and the one Smitty has. It looks like a car with some effort that could be restored. I think I have the only remaining Matador D500 wagon, but please let me know if there are any others out there. There were 49 of these Polara 9 passenger wagons made. It has the unique flat D500 badge on the tailgate.

Wow, cool car. Kilometer speedo, too, so it was most probably an export from new.

I have imported a car to the US from Canada, but I have never heard of anyone importing one from Mexico. I wonder what that's like.

Man what's with all the non-300 ram cars recently? First the DeSoto sedan, then the 60 Plymouth, now this one!

What a cool car-- its way rougher than mine. Notice THE HEATER DELETE, I see POWER WINDOWS and POWER LOCKS and dealer installed POWER BRAKES and a CLOCK and a ROOF RACK and FRONT BUMPER GUARDS and PADDED DASH and 9 PASSENGER SEATING and WINDSHIELD WASHERS and FRONT SWIVEL SEAT but no AIR CONDITIONING . Very Restorable. I also noticed wrong carburetors (electric chokes)and someone added a alternator and it also looks like the exhaust manifolds are wrong, Look at the left one-- Not heat riser hole.. It does have a beautiful sparkle steering wheel though. I hope it pops up id like to go see it...... Keep your ears open....

The ad reads "Mexico City, California". Google pulls up no such place.

This car was located in Mexico City Mexico and was a second owner car since 1965. Glad it has been sold stateside but needs a lot of work with lots of floor rust. The wagon was true Cocoa and Fawn exactly like my wagon...except my wagon was originally all fawn before the previous owner Irv Axelrod added the cocoa under the fawn top. I worked with Darrell to confirm the Serial Number it was built in Hamtramck an exec ordered car not dealer delivered. The current owner confirmed 200,000 on the odometer and not running since the early 80s when the transmission finally died. Given the driveline mileage...this would be a true bumper to bumper serious restoration. It will take either limitless money and/or skill to bring this amazing rare wagon back. I will try and connect again with the owner to find out where it went...he was very firm on $12,500 which was a steep start to this kind of restoration and top end values maybe in the $50,000 to $60,000 range.

The Pink D-500 was ran into the ground in Japan and last known location was in New Zealand. That owner would not send the VIN for verification. Again Irv Alexrod was at the car's auction and said the owner would not confirm D-500 authenticity fwiw!

Well it makes me happy that it went state side, but as stated it was ruff. I noticed the drivers side plywood floor and thought it was bad. Im happy with my D500 Polara Wagon as it has no rust at all. Good luck to the new owner of the Export Polara Wagon. (probably the only one)

Agree...interesting story it took a long time to sell my wagon. While not mentioning the two following owners there was over $45,000 invested in taking that wagon to pure...and the buying third owner after auction got it for $7,000 more than I sold it for. Just not a big market and as has been noted the demand continues to soften as most boomers have found their FL rides.
