Location: Cochrane, Alberta | Gents; been restoring my 56 regent for a couple of years and I'm nearing the finish line. The car is completely done up to the firewall and I am being held up by the machine shop boring out the engine.
I am trying to free up some space in my shop now that I have all of the body panels and inner fenders in paint; I'm worried they will be scratched sitting around waiting so I'd like to reinstall the front end onto the car. Part of me doesn't want to as it will be so easy to drop the engine and tranny back in with the front clip off.
I always remove engines and transmissions together; is it easy to just drop the engine in?
I'm thinking of installing the tranny and driveshaft, and then the front clip. I'm assuming leaving the rad out would leave enough space to mate the engine to the tranny in the car?
If anyone has done it this way I'd love to hear tips and suggestions before I go reinstalling the front clip! |

Location: So. Cal | You can install the engine after the front clip is on - without the radiator as you say. But it is definitely easier with the clip off. You just have to be really careful as you come down to not scratch your paint. If you install the trans without a motor, you will need to hold it up at the front somehow. |

I don't know what your situation is but I always store painted body panels in the house (spare bedroom) away from the dangerous shop environment. |
