I need a chrome trim piece as pictured for the drivers side roof base for my 1956 Chrysler New Yorker Newport.

This must be your car (or coincidently, it's missing the same piece):

Should the missing piece say "St. Regis"?

Yes, that is my car! The missing piece is just a rectangular piece with 3 raised stripes and is mounted above the word Newport.

I think the PNs are 1621484 and 1621485 (right and left). I did a quick check with google and ebay and Collectors Auto Supply and Len Dawson's Deception Pass Mopar Parts websites. Nada.

Worse comes to worse, you could have one machined from billet aluminum and polished.

Sorry I couldn't find one for you. Often I do find stuff on eBay.

So like this (definitely makeable (by a machinist)):
