Hope to have it in a week or so. Restored early 90's. I'd call it high driver quality at this point. Want to enjoy it for a few years and then worry about doing the 100% accurate resto. If anyone has any history on it, would love to know. Thanks!

Great car to enjoy Mike, congrats. Look forward to seeing some pics.

My friend Bob Schmidt is in the process of restoring a '58 Adventurer now. Bob is definitely a DeSoto guru and has been restoring them for years. He had success at Barret-Jackson but is considering other auctions as well. I guess there are some other very good ones but he did not mention he was interested in Mecum.

In addition to the Adventurer, he is restoring a '56 Fireflite convertible in Plumb and Lavender - what a beauty it is - dual fours on the HEMI!

I know I will have a lot to learn. I do want the car to go back right. I will need time to gather up those pieces I'm sure. Until then, will drive it like I stole it! I've never looked for desoto parts, but I imagine finding gold hubcaps will be a lot of fun

Congratulations, Mike! Wow! I can't wait to see pictures.
We need to get a listing of your cars. It seems like it is getting to be a spectacular collection of ForwardLooks.

I searched for some of those Adventurer spinner wheel covers. Over the course of several years, I saw two sets on eBay.
One wasn't quite complete. They'll turn up eventually!

By the way an impressive list of cars...

The carbs are wrong for sure. The wheels are wrong. I'm sure there will be other things that are wrong as well. I'll slowly find the items needed to turn it back right and at some point when it's time to re-restore, put them back as such. For now, I just want to get it in, get it safe to drive and put some miles on it. Not going to cost me any more or less to when it comes to the cost of restoration. I know what 2 of these have traded hands for in private transactions. One was domestic and one was international, both within the past 6 months. This car was less than half that price. I feel I can enjoy this car for a solid 5-7 years, then restore and still be in under that money. Yes, I own a lot of cars, but it is incredibly rare that I over pay. I've over paid twice. Once was for a car that my father used to own and the other was because it was the nicest one in the country and smaller total purchase.

Beautiful car, Mike!

Not often do you see one in the states, as most have made their way to Sweden.

You need to put up an album with pictures of your entire stable of Mo Par cars, Mike. That is one impressive list. I've probably owned as many cars as that over the years, but I don't have that many right now. I'm scraping by with just 4.

I meet with the builder next week to discuss the layout for the forward look museum I hope to start on by end of year, completion mid next year. Will likely double it as my personal garage as well. Right now I have things all over! Looking forward to have things in 1 spot. I've been buying/selling/trading since I was 15. In total, I've owned well over 100 cars. It wasn't until recently that I could expand this way. It has always been 1 car at a time. Buying, flipping and making money to get better stuff.

Doc, someone once told me that you could almost fabricate a '58 De Soto Adventurer wheel cover from two other wheel covers - like the spinners from an Imperial and the wheel cover from a Chrysler? Remember, I live in Colorado, so this person might have been stoned to the bejeebus.

something like a '56 New Yorker spinner on a '58 Chrysler wheel cover or something like that.
Looking at those '58 Adventurer wheel covers, they do look pieced together...

Favorite to drive, depends on occasion. I drive the 300D a lot right now. It's really hot and humid here during peak summer, so the convertibles don't see as much time. I live in the 62/65 imperials when convertible weather hits. I try to rotate out, my current place has a 2 car garage. I'm starting to build soon on my new place where I can keep everything together. Dad drives the 300L and 63 wagon to lunch all the time. The F is probably the best driving of all of the cars. I'm going to do my first concourse event next year, so it will be idle for a bit while small changes are made. I have never entered a car show in my life, but I figured I might as well try one. Someone invited me to one based off seeing the car at Carlisle. Not my thing, but figure, try it once.

Mike. a concourse event is WAY above the quality of my cars, but for a "regular" car show, the way to enjoy it is to attend but not have the car judged. You won't need to worry about a fly stuck in the radiator grille, a scuff on a tire, or a smudge on some glass. You won't be fighting with the judges who really don't understand or know your car, and you won't be talked about by everyone who thinks you're there only to get a trophy. Just talk with interested folks and enjoy the smiles and stories...

Congratulation Mike to the new finding and the great collection.
It looks as you begin to collect some DS

But I wonder, why your 58 Adv has the spear, - as I know the 57 & 58 Adv renounce to that typical spear.

Oh I go to car events all the time, I do show the cars off, I just never enter car shows. I respect the people who enter them and love to do them, just not my thing. I try to bring as many cars as I can to an event, such as the 8 to Carlisle, which was a massive under taking! I'll take a few cars to nashville mopar show next month, the florida show in november, etc. Anywhere dad wants to go basically.

My guess on the spear is that the restoration was done in 92 and someone just thought it looked good. I don't know that it would be anything more than that. The 58 Firedome Convertible I have has a host of things on it from 57. Creative license by the restorer. Once I get the car, I'll take as many pictures as I can

I had a rough '58 Adventurer hardtop about thirty years ago with one wheelcover. I was told to use the standard '57 Fireflite wheelcovers and the spinners from a '56 Windsor/New Yorker 3 bar wheelcover ( 1674214 ). The parts book shows the same dome part# as 1674215 on the '58 Adventurer as the '56. I sold the car before I finished the set, but they looked like the right pieces. At that time, someone had reproduced the center medallions for the '58.

I still have a set from my own Adventurer project. I have not had the
spinners de-pitted and rechromed or ordered the inserts. I replaced a
couple of the wheecovers that were damaged. The original spring clips
were prone to scar the backside of the plastic, and I recall thinking I'd
use a piece of hard foam to hold them in place instead.
