I am about to install the fresh 325 poly engine and Torqueflite transmission in my 57 Custom Royal. My question is in regard to installing the transmission onto the engine. It appears that the converter must be bolted to the crank first as there is not enough access through the bell housing to get on the 8 crankshaft nuts. Is this correct? I would prefer to install the converter to the transmission first to avoid damaging the seal and the oil pump. Is it possible? Any and all help appreciated thanks

Install the converter 1st, than finish the install (bellhousing) then transmission, using pin guides as stated in the FSM
You can make them from long bolts by removing the head, tapering the shank end and cutting a slot
in that end so you can put 'em in and take 'em out w/a screwdriver.

Do you have a jack to support and align the trans while installing??

Or are you trying to he-man/manhandle it in? if so, all bets are off

Get/download/print or whatever the manual and read the install section
It is available here for free.
It will be a Chrysler manual but the install step by step should be the same

Good luck and BE CAREFULL!!
You only want to do this once and not have to be pulled from under the car by EMT's

OK thats what I thought. No worries I work safe. I use a 2 post lift and have a nice transmission jack. Guide bolts! great idea

Next question ... Should I attempt to drop the engine and transmission in all at once or is it advisable to install the engine and then do the transmission from underneath? The car is on a lift so it might be a bit easier???

Do you have the front clip off?
If so, easier that way.
If not, kind of a PITA and a good way to wreck your heater housing and or windshield if it gets away from Ya during install.
Ya got help??
How did you remove it, piece by piece?
