My '60 Imperial has about driven me nuts. I have done a bunch of work to the motor, it turns over but does not fire or even kick back. Motor supposedly ran before I got it. It seems to turn over rather slowly and almost unevenly. The starter has been rebuilt. I have good spark, putting gas down the carb and it's not even kicking back. I have been told distributor could be 180 off even if rotor points to #1 at TDC? How do I tell if it's 180 off? Also what else could be causing to to turn over slowly. Thanks for any help, at my wit's end with this thing.

You need to make sure cylinder #1 is at TDC during the power stroke and not the exhaust stroke, you can confirm by removing the plug and feeling compression with your finger over the spark plug hole. Or you could pull your valve cover and watch the valves as well. Once you're found TDC on cylinder #1, make sure you mark your distributor with a "1" where the rotor is pointing. From there, make sure your wires are connected in the correct firing order. Timing should be good enough to at least pop a few times if you have spark and gas, you can adjust timing from there.

I meant to say TDC on the compression stroke, not power.

Turning over slow needs to be checked, weak starter, battery, over advanced timing, engine too tight. Pull the plugs, put a breaker bar on the crank pulley bolt, see how it feels turning it over by hand, of ok continue as suggested.
