Member Posts: 5 | Hi everyone. I have just acquired a 1962 Windsor 2 dr hardtop. I cannot find any information on decoding the fender tags on Canadian built cars. I realize that my car is one year to new for this site. I am hoping that there is a member who can decode the tag or point me in the right direction. Here is the info. Thanks in advance for the help. Mike in Winnipeg mike68@mymts.net Model S-C-1-L-23 Body No 145 Paint code XX Trim Coded SBR

Expert Posts: 1737 Location: Hay Lakes, Alberta, Canada | Hi Mike, I don't have the 1962 parts manual, so I am basing this decode on the 1961 book. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong... The model S-C-1-L-23 will be the Canuck-built Windsor 2 door hardtop, based on the similar 1961 model codes. Body number 145 means that it was the 145th body, of that model, to come down the assembly line. Paint code XX most likely means it was white, based on previous years of paint codes. The interior code is harder to find any information on. The parts books list the codes, so that parts guys could order panels, seat cushions, etc. But they don't really list or break down colours used. And with a white car...any colour was possible to order.

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | Man, this one has been hiding awhile. Expanding upon the information supplied by Brad : SC1-L-23 S - model year - 1962 C - car line - Chrysler 1 - standard engine size - 361-cid V8 L - series - Windsor (In the U.S. the L series was Newport) 2 - number of doors - 2 3 - body style - hardtop 145 - 145th 1962 Chrysler Windsor 2 door hardtop of 1,618 1962 Windsor hardtops built in Canada. XX - First X is for the roof and the second is for the body. And the colour as Brad said is for white - Polar White, Ditzler 8293, used again in 1963 and 1964 Chrysler of Canada as Yukon White. In the US used by Plymouth, Dodge, Chrysler and Imperial in 1962-63, Chrysler Fleet in 1983 (DT1219), and the Italian Fiat in 1964-65. SBR - S - model year - 1962 B - Colour - Blue cloth & vinyl (Other colours were K-Cocoa, L-Grey. W-Red) R - series - Chrysler Windsor (Saratoga was P) Door and quarter interior panels were similar to the US Newport, but the seat cloth was different. Side trim on the Canadian Windsor was unique. The trim along the side was similar to the US Sport 300 while a lion similar to the one on the front door of the 1961 Windsor was applied to the front door of the Canadian 1962 Windsor (p# 2252 086) just ahead of the side trim. Also, all Canadian-built Chryslers had the New Yorker trunk lid trim. The trim on the rear quarters of the Windsor were one piece while the Sport 300 / 300-H were two piece - one piece on either side of the circular emblem. The M series in Canada was the Saratoga - in the US it was the Sport 300. The Canadian Saratoga used the Newport trim along with the sill mouldings, New Yorker trunk trim. New Yorker bumper reveal trim, and the Windsor grille. Canadian 1962 Chrysler wheel covers (p# 2063 483) were modified 1961 Dodge wheel covers (p# 2201 656). US 1962 Chrysler wheel covers were p# 2266 137. Price of the 1962 Chrysler Windsor 2 door hardtop was C$3,774, F.O.B. Windsor, Ontario. Standard equipment on the Canadian 1962 Windsor included Torqueflite transmission, back up lights, parking brake warning light and wheel covers. The heater and defroster unit was a mandatory options - meaning the unit was optional, you paid extra for it, but you had no choice in the matter - you buy the car, you get the heater.
