Elite Veteran Posts: 963 Location: San Antonio, TX | So we have a 2004 T-Bird and my wife and I can easily handle taking the hardtop on and off. On this one I think we would need to have our sons come over and help. That's gotta weigh a ton. Edited by macedon 2017-08-30 9:14 PM

Expert Posts: 2524 Location: Houston | I actually think the roof does come off...if you blow up the pictures of the interior you can see a parting line. I have a tough time imagining how the rear window was handled....and of course it would all leak water like crazy and be super flimsy so at that point why even save the roof? When my brother and I bought my former 66 Fury VIP 2DR HT in the early 1980's, it was a pretty nice car but the headliner was ripped out. The hippies we bought it from had told us they ripped it out because they thought the roof unbolted and they were trying to find the bolts. When they couldn't find the bolts, they gave up and sold us the car for $160.

On second (and third) look, I can see lines at the windshield header and the base of the C pillar, plus some kind of gasket/flange system where the rear window meets the body. I would not be surprised that the rear window was plexiglass. Very interesting. Edited by 56D500boy 2017-08-31 2:17 AM

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 Location: Oley, PA | It's not something I would want to own, but I am a bit curious as to how it all works. I'm guessing the top bolts on somehow, but I don't see any obvious hardware. Over the years, I've seen a good number of home made "convertibles" but most of them are very badly done and most don't even have a roof at all. Sometimes they are called "parade cars." This car, appears to be done relatively well, although the pictures don't really show good close-ups of the stuff that matters. The fact that they didn't remove the roof for pictures makes me think that the process may be difficult or problematic. Edited by Greg P. 2017-08-31 10:54 AM
