Expert Posts: 2196 Location: Muskego, WI | I could use some advice. I need to make wheel decisions on both of my FL cars. For my 1956 Imperial, I love the factory wire wheels with two spoke spinner as shown on this example Imperial: https://bringatrailer.com/2014/04/06/no-reserve-1956-imperial-southa... I have a set of these wheels, but they need restoration. New sets are also available, but they are expensive as seen here: http://www.hobbycar.com/chrysler.html I've thought about getting some alloy wheels that would be easier to keep clean and presentable, and really be less maintenance. Here is the only wheel I've found that I'd consider so far: https://www.budnik.com/surfaced-series-wheels/artillery I want something that is simple, yet elegant, to fit the Imperial to be matched with white walls, any suggestions? I also want to stay close to traditional size, so 15 or 16 inches (maybe 17, only since the car is so big). Until I make a decision, I may just get some low cost tires on my clean, steel dodge ram wheels and run the original wheel covers. Any input is appreciated.

Expert Posts: 2196 Location: Muskego, WI | I like the wheels on this Cadillac, but would want a smaller OD, wider whites and no yellow. Original Imperial tires were about 30 inches in diameter, so I do plan to fill the wheel wells. I believe the wheel is even called "Imperial" by Intro Wheels: https://introwheels.com/product/imperial/ Edited by jboymechanic 2017-09-18 12:32 PM (Custom wheel on Caddy.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Custom wheel on Caddy.jpg (217KB - 388 downloads)

Check out the 1961 Chrysler with the wheels (I wouldn't add any color) http://www.americanracing.com/wheelbuilder.cfm?wimageid=14099#!&win... Location: North Australia | Jon, the Intro wheels are the ones I recon, would look awesome on your Imperial. Here is a link to another site with those wheels showing the sizes available. I saw these same wheels some years ago, and thought they would look good on my 60 also. Steve. https://www.customwheelsdirect.com/wheel/model/3035/intro-wheels-imp...

Expert Posts: 2196 Location: Muskego, WI | I agree about the look of the wire wheels, but I worry about keeping them clean. Steve, thank you for the link on the Intro Imperial wheels, now I have an idea around cost. Is there anyone out there that could do a good job photoshopping the Imperial wheels onto a 1956 Imperial coupe? Then I could have an idea of how they look on my car. Location: North Australia | Good skills Poweflite!!! In my opinion the 56 Imperial coupe is one of the best looking cars to come off a production line in the 50's. Whatever you decide Jon, you will have a fine looking car when yours is finished. Cant wait to see more pics of your ride. Steve.

Expert Posts: 2196 Location: Muskego, WI | Wow, thanks Nathan, exactly what I wanted to see. Now I'm heavily leaning towards these wheels. A set of 4 new wire wheels would be $1995 while these wheels in the same size would be $1220. Then there'd be money left for a nice set of tires too. Steve, car should be done very soon, I plan to post more pictures when I pick it up. Target date is end of September with end of October being my absolute cutoff date.

Expert Posts: 3967 Location: DFW, TX | I have just never warmed up to modern wheels on'50s luxury cars. Those don't look bad. So I wanted to see what a slightly newer set of Imperial wheels would look like on a '56. I kind of like these '63 caps. And they'd be pretty easy to keep clean!

Elite Veteran Posts: 1102 Location: Hayward, Calif | I got a set of the 15" Tru spoke wire wheels. Gives the car ( 59 Dodge ) or any car a classy LOOK. But beware of BFGoodrich www. tires. I got a set of 4 and they have been my worst NIGHTMARE. I will never ever buy BFGoodrich again !!!!! Jerry
