|I found a 57/58 Windsor with what looks like factory air (all complete). What is a good price for it?|

|If it's a complete system, and the car has no value as a restorable project (parts car), then the system is probably worth somewhere around $800. But only if it doesn't have a damaged condenser, or damaged/missing wiring and controls. I paid $500 for a mostly complete system last year. |
Be aware that there are other parts, specific to A/C equipped cars, such as the radiator and generator.
|That seems very conservative to me. The problem is that rarely does a "complete" unit come up for sale from which to gauge a saleable value. I'd say that a complete factory set-up should be easily worth somewhere near DOUBLE the 500-800 previous estimation give or take based solely upon that I've seen just a/c vents and a/c specific chrome faceplates sell for 200-300 alone by themselves with no other parts. I'd guesstimate for a complete unit somewhere between 1200-1500 would be reasonable and more realistic but may also depend upon which make of car it's for as well. I'd venture to say that an a/c system from an Imperial would be worth considerably LESS than a comparable system from say, a Plymouth as so few Plymouth cars had factory a/c. Shipping would be killer as the parts are both large and heavy. The real problem with adding factory a/c is that you have to modify the firewall to fit the unit so you'd need to be VERY committed to adding factory a/c. I'd also imagine that rebuilding the system would be pricey too..|

|I had a complete unit out of a 59 new yorker. I had a extremely hard time getting $300 for it. Only way i got that was breaking the system up. BTW no one on here would step up lots of talk, no commitments Ebay only way you could sell it|
|1959 is a different unit than 57/58.. I'd say there are a lot more people building 57/58's than 1959's..|

Yes, and as mentioned, many parts that one might not think are unique to A/C cars are. When doing such a swap it's best to have the donor car handy.
I'd also imagine that rebuilding the system would be pricey too.
And a lot of the parts that wear are hard to find; in particular, the '57-'58 compressor has electric brushes that power the clutch, they're usually worn or broken.

|The car was parked in 1971, hauled off for salvage. Body-wise it is quite good, some floor rot but not anything out of the ordinary. The whole system is there and looks quite clean. The car itself would make someone a nice project, I was hoping to drag it out and clean it up, to pass it along to someone who would enjoy it. I figured if I couldn't sell it, I could at least make my money back with the AC. There's no hemi, so I assume it's a 58, but the tail lights are long gone. Interior is pristine, mint green sedan, mostly complete and surprisingly solid. Wheel wells are good, left side rocker is quite nice, no rust over the eyebrows, solid gutters. The right side rocker is a bit worse, holes near the front fender, the rear is a bit better. Right corner of the rear window channel is through, the left will go soft in the next few years. If anyone were interested, I would have to ask about 1,700 for the whole car, to cover finances. It's been in a junkyard, but not on the ground. Thankfully they set it on tires to scare off the tinworm.|
|You should clean the car up the best you can, maybe see if you can get the motor to run if you can, take good photos that honestly show the cars condition, then post the car for sale on the "cars for sale" page and give some FL members a good shot at it. It sounds like a worthy project car! Don't forget to include where the car is. Good luck to you!|
