I am looking for an original antenna for my 58 DeSoto. This is a single one that is on the
back of the car. I am not sure if it is the same as the one for the front. ?
I pulled the antenna out as far as it would go. The bottom section measures about 16 3/4.
The middle section is only about 5 3/4. And the top section is about 20 1/2.

I am thinking that your rear-mount antenna may be original to the car. I believe that is right were they put them if the car had a power antenna originally. But if you want an original front mount style, there is an NOS one here:

and a really expensive NOS dual rear kit here:

I thought Doc once stated that there were three correct locations for antennae on the '58 De Sotos:

1) front passenger side fender; or
2) rear passenger side deck - about where this one is located; or
3) duals on the fin tips.

That sounds about right. But the one on the passenger side rear deck was in varying spots.
Some are closer to the rear window, and others are half way down the trunk lid.

I thought it was pretty weird that this antenna has a real small middle section. And, at least
on mine, the middle section does not move.

See measurements.
