Location: Lower Mainland BC		I've bumped into a 55 Desoto that is being parted out. It previously has had a conversion to modern dual channel power brakes. I can get everything in the circle below (plus behind the firewall) for $125. Seems like a good deal, even if it is only to have on hand *IF* I can't fix the odd hiss in my OE 56 Dodge Accordion power brake booster bellows (and/or hoses).

Go for it or pass?

125$ Canadian? that not bad then. looks like many generic master cylinders except the top might tell you a little, those two round slopped caps.

they look symmetrical and round? Master cylinders are cheap(like 20-30$, boosters 50$)...

It kind of looks like a classic performance unit though which can be expensive(250$). im not sure though.

Not bad but not great either. What year car was yours? The master will sit a lot lower on a 57 hemi car and may not clear the valve cover without some massaging. I have the same sort of set up on my 57 imperial but the engine isn't in yet so I will see how much of a problem it will be soon.

Those masters and boosters are fairly cheap in new condition on ebay.

My car is a 56 Dodge Custom Royal D500 (315 hemi). Here is a photo of the left side of the engine bay. I don't *think* there will be any clearance issues (set up is much the same as that 55 Desoto).

Hmm...now that I posted the photo of mine and I compare it to the Desoto, there is a difference. The Desoto booster and MC are sitting on the line of my OE booster, much higher than my OE MC. Hmm....

Crap. There is a difference, as shown in the diagram below. The 55 Desoto started off like in the 1639 515 diagram (2nd from the left) whereas my 56 Dodge is the 1637 814 diagram (3rd from the left, 2nd from the right) which has the MC much lower than the 1639 515 version. So there might be clearance issues to worry about. Hmm...

Darn.

if you are able and willing you can mod the brake pedal or move it up by slotting the mounting holes which may get you about 1/4 inch or so. There are also low profile master cylinders that should clear no problem. I have seen pictures on here someone posted a while back. The booster is fine provided it works (rebuild kits are available). I would recommend the masters be swapped for a dual reservoir just for increased safety.

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island		As you write in the first post, you get Everything circled AND the stuff behind the firewall - to me that means that you can pull the brake pedal and all other necessary parts. Most likely, the bodies are the same so it should be doable to mount Everything in your car?

Location: Minor Hill, TN		My dad and I plan to put that kind of power brake booster on my '61. I even told him I can go with out the power brakes but I was told I would be better off with them. The 1 I have on the car leaks and it will cost about $500 for a rebuilt 1 from booster Deweys.
