I understand the area under the Mayflower is supposed to be black. How about the 2 kneeling Indians? Are they supposed to be painted or be chrome?

There is a NOS 53 Plymouth badge to consider as a guide at this website:

Maybe black on the driver's side and white on the left. Just DO NOT paint the "Indians", I mean First Nations indigenous peoples, red. Maybe Ochre but not red.

Correct. The holes are painted opposite from what the lower part is painted.
