$4,000 for a decent 2 door 1960 Adventurer with A/C is a very good buy

At that price, don't tell me where it is, or it won't be
there when you go back !

60 DeSoto is an excellent car. They had a few problems,
but nothing major and nothing hard to make right. They
are light, fast, and handle really nice for a fin era car. Parts
are not impossible. Some may require keeping your radar
on all the time, but again, nothing that impossible.

Why would a corvette guy want to be seen driving one of these?? Everyone knows if it isn't a Chevy, it isn't worth restoring....

I don't have any pic right now but I am going to go back and look under it some.I think the worst place was on the passenger door down low were the bottom of the rocker is.Do you guys think that I could get my money back or even make a little money?Guys for the chevy statement above I not a diehard chevy guy like the ones you see I like all cars and trucks I do like chevy corvette the best but I am not bias about it.Just don't want to get a car you cant get parts for or get burned up on something i have had to work for everthing i have most of my life so i know how hard money is to come by these days.We opened the truck and it was a small rust out around were the truck line lays toward the back were the lip goes around and seals the truck against the body,he said that they all rust out there because of the way there made.Im gong back in a few days and look at it closer. Thanks keep the comments coming guys i love it.

At that price, if decent and complete, you will not lose money.
But I really hate to see people look at a car like this through the
prism of money. It is a really slick and racy car with excellent
engineering. Water drainage and rust are the designs worst issues,
and can be dealt with if not allowed to get too out of hand in the
past.

Corvettes are common and generally attract a certain crowd.
This is a rarely seen vehicle that won't attract the Corvette crowd
(generally is looked down upon by non-Forward Look car people),
but really is a fine and rare automobile. If you are interested in
a refined taste in cars, it would be hard to find a better example
to invest your learning and interest in than a 60 DeSoto coupe.

Everyone knows DeSotos aren't worth anything. People don't know what they are! I'd be willing to buy it as a crappy driver car that everyone at the shows will make fun of.

Nobody can do a thing with a licence plate number. Never understood why people cover them up.

Is this car in the Southern US? More specifically is it in North Carolina? I want to say I've seen this car before.

Also I see some rust peeking around the trim and on the top of the one fin. Floors could be questionable. Also looks like the front fenders might have bondo in them. Is that a crack? If the trunk seal channel is rotted out...which they pretty much all are...the trunk floor is probably rotted too. Under that stainless trim along the rockers could be rust issues as well. But overall doesn't look too bad.

First off you have to decide what you would even want the car for. Is it to enjoy or are you polling us to make sure you can make a quick buck?

You can't order anything for these cars. They just don't reproduce anything. You can't even get taillight lenses unless you order them from Sweden or happen across an NOS set. Both of which command a high price. Its not like a Chevy where there are catalogs of chinese parts to buy. If you're missing something specific or need patch panels you have to find it, make it or do without. Some mechanical stuff can still be had however. Does it need interior work? Well they don't make interior kits for them... you can pay out the big bucks for original materials and then have someone sew em up. Pretty much no transmission shops will touch a cast iron Torqueflite. At least around here...though I wouldn't trust a trans shop to work on one of my transmissions... If you can't work on cars yourself then you'll end up sinking a lot of cash into some shop to do the work. And they love to charge even more for these cars because they are so "different" from a Chevy.

All in all if you actually want the car for what it is...its seems like a decent buy. But you seem pretty wrapped up on being able to resell it for profit.

I do miss my '60 DeSoto Adventurer. It was black as well. So if you decide you don't want it... let me know!

Actually after looking closer...did something crush the fin? In the photo of the Adventurer badge... it looks like bondo has cracked and is coming apart. See the rust stain coming from that area? The emblem is also broken and screwed in place as if it got hit. Definitely go over the body especially underneath to make sure there isn't any major issues. Floors, quarters, rockers, fender tops and bottoms are known to rust out. I've seen some cars that looked really nice end up actually being turds! You'd be amazed at the creativity that goes into body "repairs" that some people do.

But either way its still a 2dr '60 DeSoto... Rust and bodywork doesn't scare the hardcore folks. And I know someone is Sweden would love to get their hands on it!
