Limited market for one of these? Would be neat to go for a ride in this. I hope it stays Stateside.
Steve.

I think it would be pretty neat to startup a limo service using only classic limos. I bet there would be a market for such a thing - probably more for a Cadillac limo though. Could be a fun way to earn money while you are retired.

This Limo was in the show "FantomWorks", just parked in the background.

Cost a lot of money to use this in service, and keep it reliable. How do you think the customer would be to deal with when they didn't make there "engagement" on time?

If you have 2 of them, it wouldn't be difficult. I drive my old cars all the time and it is extremely rare for one of them to leave me stranded. Things do wear out so having a backup would be important while you maintain & work on the other one. Once you go through the car to make sure everything is up and working properly, it wouldn't be any less reliable than a newer vehicle.

This thing is a mess . . . .

First, regardless of it's current state, it clearly hasn't been well maintained. A quick look at the overall condition will attest to that.

Second, while it is interesting, it really isn't a classic collectable limo in the traditional sense. A few minutes of looking over the pics available and it's clear to me that this is NOT a factory or even period conversion - this poor car was cut up and converted sometime in the 1980's. I'm not a limo collector, but if I were that would move it pretty far down on my list of desirable cars. Overall the condition seems only fair, and as well all know once you start looking that'll probably drop to poor in no time flat. So why would you restore, or recondition, this car, when for the same effort you could simply do a conversion on a decent 4 door in original condition?

I've had the chance to get up close and personal with a few "modern" limo conversions, and they are all pretty much hack jobs.

I understand these old cars can be reliable as anything else. But with the extra weight of the car and it's passengers, things are different. Where do the customers want to go? Around town, lots of cornering and braking. How long before the front suspension and brakes are shot? And how long will they last after a rebuild? What design is the driveshaft. CI torqueflight condition?

WE have huge amounts of Classic stretch Limo's in all of our major cities and they are used in normal city traffic. Classic hire car is huge business in Oz. From 1920's to 1960's in all models, shapes and sizes. They vary from stock to updated running gear but most are stock. I'm guessing that this Limo has done it's fair share of city driving if it was bought off a limo company in New York. Well speculate it was because no history posted prior to his father buying it.

I am also in the business and I have never heard of classic cars leaving people standard. No more than a new hire wedding car. We also have old 1940's double deck buses that take people on tours around the city and they cope well with their old setups.

If you google image classic limo hire Australia, it will give you a small idea to how many "Old" hire cars are about.. We hired 1924 RR Silver Ghost Limo's for our wedding and I still see them and many others in the city most times when I'm in there. The 50's stretch Cadillac's are another big show stopper here.

I have to agree....the handling of the extra windows along the side is just pretty sloppy and very clunky.

And the owner says the car was kept outdoors....any car this old needs to be kept indoors. If you can't keep it inside, don't own it.

So you want BigM to shut down? If everyone went by that philosophy, no one would have any cars to restore right now. I am thankful for the people who kept these old junkers (most of the time, outside) way beyond their useful date.

He is talking about keeping cars outside. It just depends on your location. South and north are quite different.

Virginia is an area that has plenty of rain, humidity, and snow. All of which will quickly eat up a car....especially one that is 50+ years old.
