I can pick up a universal 1bbl with air filter shipped to my door for $344. I thought about rebuilding the one on the car, but, as it has a Sisson choke instead of a hot air choke, I'm pretty sure it's non-original. Anyone tried one of Daytona's carbs? I read a favorable review on an IH forum.

Hi
That carb looks just like an early sixties Holley 1 bbl that were used on some Ford sixes and the 170 cid Slant six. It appears to be made in Argentina (Industria Argentina stamped on the bowl) ...it sure does look nice. I have no experience with this outfit as I rebuild all my old originals. At $344 for a little 1 bbl its obvious they are not giving anything away .....
Their kit offerings is impressive. I'm going to bug them about what they have for choke pull-offs etc. Thanks for the link.

I thought it looked like a Holley 1904. I can pick up a remanufactured 1904, but it would still be well over $200 as I don't have a core and would have to eat the core charge. Looking on the internet, I found that Mike's Carburetor Parts sells a universal 1904 for $339. One of the photos on their website shows their carb with a Daytona Parts Company sticker on it.

For about $300, I can get a Weber 2bbl, 2bbl to 1bbl adapter, and air cleaner assembly from Langdon's Stovebolt. However, I'm not sure what benefit there is in a 2bbl when it's still having to flow through the same small hole into the intake manifold.

I asked Daytona if their carb was a Holley 1904 and they replied with:

"Our Daytona Universal is made especially for us with the Universal features. It is based on a Holley model 1904, manufactured for us in Argentina. The carburetor is made using ethanol resistant parts and is a much updated version of the USA made Holley used thru 1970."

I'll probably order one of these after Christmas. The only thing I don't like is the manual choke, but that's not the end of the world.

After limping the original BBS for another year, I was finally forced to do something. I just ordered a 2-bbl from Langdon's with the adapter and air cleaner kit.
