I recently received scanned copies of the 56 Dodge Accessories brochure (see below). Now I'd like to interpret the cowl tag and the IBM card in light of the brochure info. My car has Tinted windows, power steering, power brakes, Powerflite, and the Basic, Convenience and Appearance accessories (vanity mirror is missing but it probably was there at the beginning). There has to be a resource available for us! Anything that you can share with me will be greatly appreciated. GEORGE Breslin Jacksonville, Florida George: Welcome to the forum. There aren't many 56 Dodge folks here that are active. I will try to help you as much as possible. First thing is to post up some photos of your car. Here are some hints about how to do that: Start at the top of this thread: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=64340&... I have previously posted a number of 56 Dodge articles to this thread (note it goes over two pages): http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=67189&... As for paint, I think 263 is Sapphire white, jewel black and aquamarine, based on this thread: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=63553&... which includes this: Body 835 = same as mine = 4 dr sedan Trim: 3422 = too many numbers. Should only be three numbers as far as I know and I would have thought that it would be 541, 542 or 543 (?) For the Custom Royal Sedans, so far I know: 541 = two tone blues 542 = black and white 543 = might be the two green tones Have a look at this thread: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=65230&... I am emailing you this directly as well. Dave F.

Regular Posts: 74 ![]() ![]() | . Hello Robert. According to 1956 Plymouth Order Codes (see the first attached picture): 344 = Handy Governor (but it is for Plymouth 6 cylinder only) 353 = Powerflite Transmission 361 = Solex Tinted Glass in all window areas 381 = Air Foam Seat Cushions (front only) 385 = Rear Auxiliary Seat with Air Foam Seat Cushions (but this option for Wagons only) 428 = Exterior Body Trim Package (no idea what came on Windsors at extra, except Sun Cap Visor, Front Bumper Outer Guards or a Side Sweep Mouldings; Plymouth range from 421 to 425) 451 = Electric Clock 469 = Battery (no idea about Amperes capacity) 473 = 6.70 x 15 White Side Wall Tubeless Tires 4-Ply (set of 5) Single 8 marked „?” 1) Probably 458 = Undercoating (although this is not in order in your optional codes row) 2) Route 8 (or Tracer) = Delivery Route by Rail… (see «8» in the top right corner on the built card) I have attached a ’56 New Yorker Newport built card, but top right corner is still hard to see… SG1 = 1 is a Solex Glass M5 = 1 maybe means manual antenna (2 = dual rear fender antennas) For others – no 100% info, speculations only (Order Codes.jpg) (with sweep molding.JPG) (without sweep moulding.JPG) (New Yorker Newport.JPG) Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Dave, Igor I know a few 56 LA cards, all blurred. These small code numbers are impossible to read. The right side is always worse. Ok, so we know what we knew. Powerflite, Solex, Airfoam, Tires. Body trim Package - I don't think so. I don't have any extras. Electric clock - no clock. Are you sure 8 in the top right corner? So 8 is trail, 4 is truck, right? Interesting is 6 in the top left corner. Same on all cards. Which means zero hole to the right IBM card?

Regular Posts: 74 ![]() ![]() | . Yes. This is Dieter’s Chrysler. Another puzzling cowl tag from WCD-LA. For example: What SG5 is mean? I can see a solex glass all around, it should be SG1!!! Maybe SG5 means solex glass + windshield washer? This is not. Windshield Washer is a standard on ’56 New Yorkers. Maybe solex glass + sun cap visor? No, that standard ’56 NY too… What’s this? I have no idea. Detroit code says that 1 = Solex Glass – all, 2 = Solex Glass – windshield only, while separate column says 5 = sun cap visor, 7 = outer front bumper guard, 9 = sun cap visor and outer front bumper guard together… If I point out the parallels with his Detroit’s cousins, where number 4 decodes heater, and 8 decodes radio Music Master (6 push buttons) + rear seat speaker, we can see these on M8 = 4 and M9 = 8 positions. But this is wrong too… (1.JPG) (2.JPG) (3.jpg) (4.JPG) (5.JPG) Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
