I think the OE PN is 1639 772. Nothing relevant shows up on a Google search.

I found this photo in a Volo website (a 56 Dodge surprise surprise)

The shop manual has "Top Radiator Hose Gates # 20475" written on it. So I Googled "Gates 20475 hose" and got a couple of hits:

Global: http://www.globalindustrial.ca/p/vehicle-fleet-maintenance/automoti... $25 but out of stock.

Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/Gates-20475-Lower-Radiator-Hose/dp/B000C2UACE

It says lower at $53.

Jegs: http://www.jegs.com/i/Gates/465/20475/10002/-1 $17.95

eBay: https://www.ebay.com/p/Radiator-Coolant-Hose-Molded-Coolant-Hose-Gat... $15.95 with free shipping (slow boat)

Rock Auto: http://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/gates,20475,radiator+lower+hose,20... (ends up CDN $19.63 with shipping to US mail drop - about the same as eBay)

Most of the above say "Lower". But even if it is the Lower hose, big deal, I will have a spare/replacement lower rad hose.

What I have now for Upper bugs me:

Join the club, one of my pet peeves too; nothing ruins an otherwise nice engine compartment more than an accordion hose.

I have a non-accordinion hose on my '56 that was installed a few years back. Let me see if I can pull a part number for you.

Please do. In the meantime, one of the two Gates 20475s I ordered (two different sources) (this one from Rock Auto) arrived. It looks like it would work in the upper position with a bit of trimming. Not sure about the lower position.

I'm showing a photo of the existing lower hose for reference, then the Gates 20475 beside the new bendy hose I put on earlier this year.

After I posted the above photo of the first Gates 20475 hose that I got (from Rock Auto), I contacted DepsilonD (David N.) who I know has a 56 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer with a 315 poly engine and asked him about his upper rad hose. He told me that he looked but didn't have any part number details in his file. However he was good enough to send me a photo (see below). That hose had no manufacturer info but it did have some numbers, i.e. EBPO 80MH70. I thanked him, noting that the first Gates 20475 that I got did not have those numbers, it had EBPO 17H16XDW, instead. I then started the search for 80MH70. I came up dry. David N. emailed and indicated that he had searched and he too had come up dry.

A few days passed and the second hose that I ordered, this time off eBay, showed up. Turns out it too was a Gates 20475. When I got it home, I compared it to the first one, size and shape-wise, seems slightly different but 98% the same. When I looked at the 20475 label on the second hose, I could see "0MH70" beside it. WHAATT!!?? I peeled the label off and low, and behold, EBPO 80MH70, the same as on David N's hose (but the markings are different font and size-wise)

Now I presume that since EBPO 17H16XDW and EBPO 80MH70 seem to be the same shape and size, those numbers might not be part numbers but lot numbers, more to do with the manufacturing of the hose material than the forming of the raw hose into specific shape. I don't know. What I do know (okay "think") is David N's hose is really Gates 20475. Regardless, when the weather gets warmer, I'm going to install one of my 20475s instead of that corrugated monster and see if it works.

To be honest, I don't think the 20475 is the correct hose because of the quite abrupt 90 deg bend rather than a nice smooth radius bend. However, until I find something better, the 20475 is at least corrugation-free.

First photo is courtesy of David N.

Me too.

In the meantime, I saw a Gates 22896 on a 56 Coronet with a D500 engine so I started to chase that one. So far I found that an ACDelco 22050M is close to the Gates 22896 so I bought that. Looks promising. I found a Gates 22986 (with a 90?? new number). It will be in tomorrow. I can always use the 20475 as the lower rad hose so no loss if these others work out.

Ordered the Gates 22896 through my local NAPA. Arrived today. Shows as a NAPA 9531. Has the same "EBPO 80MH70" as the other hoses so I presume that that is the material designation not the actual hose.

NAPA 951 compared to the AC Delco 22505M (all of these will work more or less):

For what it's worth, RockAuto has the Gates 22896 for much less than what I paid:

https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/gates,22896,radiator+upper+hose,20...

And yes, I am a "Canadian Hoser" (if you were wondering)

Somebody STOP ME.

As I posted a photo of a 56 Imperial engine bay in a different thread, I noticed the PN on the hose, i.e. Mopar 60880.

This:

Searching on "60880" turns up quite a few alternatives, including this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Radiator-Coolant-Hose-Lower-Upper-Continent...

Taking 60880 to Rock Auto turns up "CONTINENTAL 60880 Molded; Cut-to-Fit; I.D. 1.750"; Length 16". Continental EliteĀ® Radiator Hose is designed to transfer glycol-based coolants to and from the radiator as well as through other components in the vehicle's coolant system." CAD$ 9.07 plus shipping.

Same photo as above:

In the intervening 3 plus years there wasn't a real issue with the rad or rad hoses so I had no big incentive to change anything. However, recently, the NOS water pump that I bought in September 2016 decided to leak extensively. So I had to pull my spare NOS water pump out and prepare to install it. While that is happening, I am finally going to get rid of the Ug-A-Lee corrugated hose and also install the new thermostat housing that I bought some time ago off ebay.

I tried all the hoses that I accumulated back in 2018 today and I think that the Gates 20475 will work as a top rad hose once I cut it down an inch or two at the base.

Here are a couple of photos trialling the 20475 on the eBay thermostat housing:

First the housing:

Because I wasn't 100% happy with the look of the Gates 20475, I contacted Del S. (Dels56) who also has a 56 Dodge Custom Royal V8 (his has a 315 poly) to ask him what he remembered using for rad hoses. He replied this AM with:

"Good morning, These are the numbers I have noted. I may have had to shorten one but don't remember exactly.
Top 1639.772 AC Delco 20026S"

I started chasing that down locally and found one at Lordco (kind of like Pep Boys or O'Reilly's in the US).

Picked it up and compared it to the Gates 20475. Turns out that the AC Delco will fit a bit better than the Gates 20475. Also turns out that the two Gates 20475s that I have are different lengths, one longer than the AC Delco 20026S and one shorter. So I could have used one of the 20475s with some trimming. (Even the 20026S might need some trimming).

Here are some photos testing the fit of the 20026S and comparing it to the 20475.

Finally installed the AC Delco 20026S. I cut a tad more than 1.25" off the "bottom" but I am not happy with the current angle at the radiator. Since I haven't yet re-installed the thermostat (I intend to flush the system with a garden hose through the "Tee" that I installed when I did the heater core), when I remove the thermostat housing for that, I will trim the hose more (about 1/2"). I might also trim the radiator end of the hose a bit (maybe 1/2") to change the angle of attack/lean.

This is what I have now (note the successfully installed Corbin clamps):

That flushing happened today. Removed the Corbin clamps and the upper hose. I was shocked how much the Corbin clamps seemed to "cut" into the hose. As a result, after I trimmed the hose (3/8") at both ends and re-installed the 180F thermostat, I used lined gear clamps (only smooth metal touches the hose). I think I like the look better and I won't worry about the clamp cutting into the hose.

This is what it looks like now (I like the hose fit/angle much better now too):

I've found that the unlined gear clamps cut into the hoses the worst. Using the lined clamps is a big improvement over them.

I apologize for being so late with this note. In 2011 Richard Main helped me with the upper radiator hoses. I just finally found this. Copied below is what he said. I think David's is perfect but this is just some more information to have in case you are looking. I installed the Gates 20974 but cut it off a little too much.

These cars almost uniquely use 1-3/4" upper radiator hoses, the rest of the industry uses 1-1/2". That's what makes finding the water outlets so impossible too. That said, the Napa ECR 7711 fits real good for the upper and the 7096 fits the lower if you trim off the excess length. The 7711 is intended for the 95-96 Hummers and lower coolant hose in 73-78 B-series Dodge Vans. You can also use GATES Part # 20974 or ACDELCO Part # 22103M for the upper radiator hose in all 55-56 Plymouths, cost is $10.66 from rockauto.com
