| I just got my '58 Desoto transported to me. It rolled fine up onto the trailer, but when it got here, it would not roll off, even though it rolled forward and back fine several months ago. It's wasn't a brake issue as all the shoes were pulled out previously and hubs busted free. Once I removed the little square pins it rolled. Something on the driveshaft locking up? Car has not been on the road since 1969. |

What little square pins?
the driveshaft keys?!
maybe the parking brake is locked up? the driveshaft can't really lock up. as you probably know, these cars have an independent parking brake mounted on the transmission extension. |

Collapsed bearing in the diff or park brake as Sid says. Very unlikely to be a locked up trans, but a stuck rear pump?
I would drop the tail shaft off the back of the park brake drum and work it out from there

maybe the parking brake is locked up?....
That's my guess too. But also, if you have the drums too loose, it can prevent the car from rolling well. It will end up binding on the axle bearings. You should leave them tight as loosening them up isn't helping anything. But removing the brakes can help if there is an issue with them. |

Disconnect the driveshaft at the rear end. |

| Thanks, that helps. Yes the driveshaft keys. The brakes were all frozen to the drums from it sitting so long, that's why the shoes had to be pulled. A sticking park brake makes sense but strange it would roll forward ok but not back.

Location: Redwood City, California | I had the exact same problem. Was told it was e-brake, etc etc. Turned out to be transmission. ($3k) Good luck with yours. |

| Thanks, my gut feeling says trans as I have dealt with stuck or sticking parting brakes in the past, and never had one that would let the car roll freely in one direction. But will know for sure when i pull out parking brake shoes. |
