This 1682 110 trim for example. The emblem/crest attaches through those two holes. I can't find the PN to start tracking down a pair.

Hmm....thanks for trying. The quest continues.

I probably should have said that this is for a 1956 Dodge.

Anybody?

Good news/bad news.

Good News: Figured it out. Searched the Mopar Parts pdf on "emblem" - Nope. Okay "Crest" - Nope. Okay - "Medallion" - had quite a few hits and, eventually, the right one: 1599 544. Good news.

Bad news: None of my normal sources seem to have one. eBay doesn't seem to have one.

Hmmm...

Well 4 years later, I know have a pair of 1599 544 Lancer emblems, courtesy of my friend Del S (Dels56) and his access to Arizona bone yards in the Phoenix. Del was looking for bits for his 56 Custom Royal Lancer so I put a request in, should he bump into a Lancer with C-pillar medallions. He did

Which is good because in the meantime, I attempted with less than perfect results, to reproduce the emblem/medallion in cast resin:

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=70512&...

This:

Not only did Del buy the real ones for me (I still owe him the bucks), he cleaned them up and painted them for me (waaaay beyond the call of duty). Now they look so good I am not sure whether I will get them plated (gold) (and then repaint them - but Del did such a good job it would be a shame to undo his good work). Del shipped them to me late last week and I got them earlier this week. (Thanks Del) See below.

In this process, I became curious as to how the medallions were originally attached to the Lancer C-pillar trim. The 55-58 parts book that lists the 1599 544 medallions for the 1955 and 1956 2 and 4 dr Lancers also lists four 120 622 nuts that are required for installation. Searching the parts book for those, they show up as 8-32 hex nuts. I had checked the threads and knew them to be 8-32 so that made sense to me.

I asked Del today what kind of nuts were on the medallions when he found them. He replied that they were the pressed steel "PAL" type, the ones that can cut their own threads on studs (I have used them on my car on both the "DODGE" script and the D500 emblems so I know about them).

What threw me was the attached photo that seems to show Emblem Script Clips/ Barrel Tubular Nuts on the "studs" on the medallions.

Like these:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/204027956444?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid...

I have a suspicion that the method of attachment evolved over the 2 years of production. I am guessing that the first medallions were indeed attached using the 120 622 8-32 hex nuts. Then somebody figured out that pennies could be saved if they used the much cheaper PAL nuts.

The downside of both these options would be the medallions would have to be installed to the C-pillar trim pieces and then combination of the trim and medallion stock-piled in a bin on the assembly line until the Lancer car came by. The chances of scratching the medallion in this process would be greater than zero. Not good.

SO then, and this is a pure 110% wild @ss guess somebody figured out that using barrel nuts would eliminate the potential for emblem damage. In that case, the C-pillar trim would go on first without the Lancer medallion, and then the barrel nuts would be pushed into the holes and then, and only then, would the pristine gold-plated and painted medallions would be pushed into the barrel nuts, expanding the wings on the barrel nuts, locking the medallion to the stainless trim. Removal without damage would be very difficult without removing the C-pillar trim.

Regardless, the end result was nobody was going to be able to steal the gold-plated medallions by casually walking by and popping them off with a screw driver or putty knife. Some of the car would have to be removed to get at the nuts. A pretty good theft deterrent, I think.

Now the dust has settled and I am left with deciding Option 1 (high) or Option 2 (low). Both will require holes to be drilled in the C-pillar trim. I would use 8-32 hex nuts with the integral star-type lock washers to hold then on.

Thanks again Del.

Hi Dave. Thanks for the kodos. Cleaning us the Lancer emblems kept me out of my wife’s hair and maintained harmony in the house.
I think you must mount the emblems on the smooth, upper portion of the pillar trim. Although the hardtops have the emblems mounted lower on the trim the sedan must be unique and have the emblems mounted higher up.

He did a great job on mine
