I was looking for a new advert for the white and yellow 57 "D500" and I bumped into this 56 D500 advert.

https://www.cars-on-line.com/37203.html

Their story is complete and utter BS. What else is new.

That said, it does look like a 56 D500, just 260 hp not the claimed 290 hp or only one of 50 (there were over 3603 D500 engines built by mid-May 56 and more were likely made after that) or like some mythical $200K Barrett-Jackson unicorn one. (There was a very nice one but it sold for $127K not $200K)

This one: https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1956-DODGE-CUST... (NOTE: Even the B-J text is full of BS)

B-J Golden Lancer D500(dash 1?) engine:

"1956 Dodge Coronet Lancer

Dodge Coronet Lancer. This vehicle is a D-500 model fewer then 50 were made 315 cubic inch hemi motor with 290 horsepower push button automatic transmission a car like this sold for over $200K at Barrett-Jackson auction in 2007 this is a 2 door hard top gold and white exterior with black interior Call for more info.

Price - $ 28,500 "

He's implying it is a Golden Lancer D500. Supposedly a mid-year California-only offering in Gold/White with the Hemi 4bbl. Bob Schmidt restored one that sold at BJ for $125k in 2007. Sure the seller is a little optimistic on the price, since the 1955-1956 Dodge market has tanked, but overall a pretty legit ad. I've seen worse for sure...

He's not implying that it's just D500. He's implying that it is a one of 50 D500-1, the dual quad, big exhaust, big cammed, higher compression version. I am sure he read this BS from Barrett-Jackson (who I no longer trust, if I ever did):

"Lot #1241.1 - This 1956 Dodge Custom Royal Golden Lancer is the only example known manufactured with the ultra rare D500-1 dual-quad 315CI/295 horsepower Hemi. The Golden Lancer was a special edition Custom Royal that was available in California only. It came specially equipped with custom two-tone paint, unique Gold trim, special badging, exclusive interior accents including dash and upholstery and other unique features. This one-of-a-kind Lancer has recently had a nut and bolt restoration. Certainly a potential museum piece, this fine automobile has all of its original sheetmetal and drivetrain. With production numbers originally slated for 100, actual production was closer to 50, with this likely the only one built with dual quads."

The hp keeps going up and up and the number of cars that were built keeps going down and down. LOL.

Been listed off and on for almost a year now. Nice enough seller who doesn't know a heck of a lot about what he has because he took in on a trade. Too optimistic for my budget.

My search continues......

Even if that BJ car is legit, I would never pay $125K for a car with a rare & unique motor that has the wrong air cleaner. The air cleaner, carbs & intake (and numbers of course) is really what you are paying for here. Subtract some of those impossible-to-obtain items, and it isn't worth nearly the same price.
