Saw this at the Detroit autorama.  I guess its a 57 due to the hood... 56 due to bumper/Fins?

They did a great job of Forward Looking it at least

I mean that roof is almost litterally off a FWL car(chopped it a bit)

that's got to be a 300k build.

and Bel Air series are too common and boring for my taste.

I fail to grasp what motivates a builder to do something like this.
What I like about OLD CARS is the OLD, not the car. Lose the OLD
and it is just another Toyota with a custom body. Whoop-de-doo !

He did it to win a riddler award, you have to customize something.

He saw a 57 chevy and said okay lets slope it big time and make a custom.

It seriously looks like he took the roof off a forward look and chopped it sloped it a bit more. A ton of work but whatever.  I will just stick with my 57 dodge which is very similar looking without the hacking and welding.

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island		The car is clearly done by some sheetmetal experts, the work is very nicely don but it don't appeal to me.

The concept is;
55 Chevy front fenders
57 Chevy headlight style
57 Chevy hood
55 Chevy style grille
55 Chevy style front bumper
57 Chevy fin style

Would have been nice to mix in som 56 Chevy parts as well.

The car looks better from the rear than from the front view.

Make a good ditch plug, eh Doc! It looks pretty low, so might need to get some speed up and jump it in.

Not my style either.

It's a slab-sided silver blob with flush glass and chrome 20s. Could have just stuck some fins on a '90s Impala and ended up with the same thing.

hah yeah this guy wanted to win the Riddler and he spent enough money to do that.

Someone should just park a 57-58 dodge/Desoto/Plymouth/chy next to it

What I think is kind of sad is I don't think there was one 57-58 dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler/Desoto there?

I'm going to have to start going to these.

Location: Hilltown, PA		Given the degree of customization involved, and the skills of the guys doing that kind of work, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to learn that the majority of the car was hand fabricated from scratch. While the Tri-Five Chevy is clearly the inspiration, I'd bet there's very little in the way of Chevrolet based parts on that car.

Don't know if anyone here has seen this car before, but it is an awesome example of just how good your game as a customizer needs to be these days. I especially like the ghost flames that are created by the different methods of finishing the aluminum . . .

Nope.

The entire car was hand fabricated from aluminum sheet and structural tubing.

Also, the 57 Chevy that started this thread took the Riddler Award - so whether you like the design or not the build must have been darn near perfect.

define "perfect". i personaly don't mind a not so perfect door gap but the car has to have style and class. that mixture of new and old is just tasteless. its a perfectly build, high quality atrocity.

typically the Riddler is a 30's Ford roadster event, so yeah IMAGINE A CHEVY winning, hah... I mean look at the 80's and 90's winners..

Imagine a Mopar winning!!! hah they wont stand for that. 1970 was the only time a Mopar won.
