Anyone ever seen under the hood of an original 1961 D500 361hp 4bbl? What color were the valve covers and air cleaner? I'm getting conflicting information and I am trying to clarify.

Thanks

I'm confused. Shouldn't a 1961 D500 be a 383? With either 330 hp or 325 hp? I think the 1960 D500 non-police package was a 361?

But then again, I am confused :

" 383-cid V8, 1 4-bbl carb, 325-bhp (Police Special)
383-cid V8, 2, 4-bbl carb, 340-bhp (D-500)
413-cid V8, 2 4-bbl carbs, 350-bhp (D-500)
413-cid V8, 2 4-bbl carbs, 375-bhp (D-500)

The D-500 version of the 361 had a 9 to 1 compression ratio and a four-barrel carburetor. The intake valves were enlarged for better breathing. The Police Special had a compression ratio of 10 to 1 and a four-barrel carburetor."

You're confused? Try figuring out what the hell Chrysler was doing in 1962. Talk about confusing....

So the D500 383 Ram induction was an option as was the Polara D500 which was a 383 4bbl. Standard was the Polara V8 which was 361 2bbl.

The option in my car is the Dart D500 which is an HP361 4bbl.

Both of us can find ram induction set ups all day long because they are beautiful and audacious. Find me an original Polara D500 or better yet a Dart D500 engine bay with the shorty, low restriction air cleaner.

Take a look at the paint scheme on the 1961 Chrysler 300 ram set up. Better still, check out this '61 commando scheme.
