Sadly, Leo Dickson of Phoenix AZ died in his sleep last week, his widow called to inform me yesterday.
Leo was a very nice gentleman, a retired over-the-road trucker who in his retirement carefully transported vintage cars one-at-a-time behind his Dodge pickup for many of us, including Bo Malefors in Phoenix, many cars from John "Big M's place in CA, and others of us. I believe he was around 84, and still actively working.

Leo hauled at least 6 cars and a motorcycle for me from AZ, CA, NM, SC, VT, and more. He was also the owner of a '56 Olds 88 that he'd he owned since new, and a very knowledgeable car guy. Sometimes when he knew of a particularly nice car for sale he'd call and let me know about it. He was always very dependable, super reasonable in what he charged for his good work, and a true credit to an important part of our hobby that can sometimes be very disappointing to deal with. RIP Leo.

I believe John said it was Leo that hauled my Plaza out of the desert
and up to John's place while I was deployed. Never met him, but the
way John described his style, sounds like my kind of guy. I hope I make
84 in good health and active.

It was sad news to hear of Leo's passing....He was a truly great guy, Honest as the day is long!...He treated everyone's cars with kid gloves like they were his own...he transported 6 of my cars from Sierra Vista AZ to Bo's business in Phoenix AZ and back again, and also picked up a 58 Dodge wagon from Montana for me...i'd been in contact with Leo almost daily, as i worked for Bo for about a year, Leo was planning to pick up my 57 D500 from upstate NY this month(April), he'd just been to CA to pick up a windshield for me for my 58 2dr HT (the day before he passed)...I know he had some serious health issues, he'd told me..."John I just want to keep on working(driving) untill i drop"...he loved to drive all over the country!!..I'm happy he passed in his sleep and didn't suffer a slow death (he had bone cancer)....RIP Leo!, You will be missed by many.

He was a great man. He even chose to unload my car in the rain, a Texas Thunderstorm style rain, and he was so happy to do it. He will be missed. Love and prayers to his family.

So sad to read this.

I've known Leo for years, he personally picked up and delivered cars here at least fifty times, so I got to know him pretty well. I knew him before when he sold taillights at the Turlock swap meet, always willing to give a good deal.

He was always up to a challenge, he would go the extra mile, where most haulers would fail.

Resty in peace, my friend, you were the real deal.

He stayed at my home. I can't remember what car he hauled out of here. RIP Leo
