Elite Veteran Posts: 827 Location: tailFinland | Another 59 Dodge coupe is heading to Skandinavia next week. Finally find what I have been looking for about 29 years when I sold my 59 Coronet Lancer. Found her for sale at So Cal classics. It is pure barn find, Driven last in 70's, typical California rust, trunk floor and front of rear wheel opening. Engine frozen radiator missing but other wise quite complete. I am really satisfied with nice patina it has. This car wont be ruined with new chrome, paint and bling bling Edited by Adventurer 60 2018-05-19 4:33 PM (dodge6.jpg) (dodge 9.jpg) (dodge3.jpg) (dodge17.jpg) (dodge57.jpg) (dodge88.jpg) (dodge engi2.jpg) Attachments ---------------- dodge6.jpg (135KB - 253 downloads) dodge 9.jpg (157KB - 271 downloads) dodge3.jpg (115KB - 254 downloads) dodge17.jpg (129KB - 246 downloads) dodge57.jpg (95KB - 265 downloads) dodge88.jpg (88KB - 261 downloads) dodge engi2.jpg (139KB - 256 downloads)

This car wont be ruined with new chrome, paint and bling bling I entirely agree, beautiful car as it sits, just do the necessities to make it a reliable driver. The car world doesn't need more bling it needs more tatty original old drivers. Personally I've always found those kind of cars way more interesting. Congrats, great find! Owen

Elite Veteran Posts: 827 Location: tailFinland | Sure it will be fixed and maybe running this fall. I already got donor 413+torqueflite waiting + everything from my 61 4d NY, bigger brakes and stuff... Ordered lot of parts from Rockauto to come with it. + got hub caps, tail lights and so on from ebay. I already got 2 FLs restored to show. I've been workin with my 300G for about 5 years and when its done, can I use it as daily driveron a nice summer day? No! (what a waiste of time) I have got enough of it for a little time This car will be mechanically good as usual but I want keep the 59 year old patina, just fix and repair what needs to be repaired and wipe the dirt off. lower paint is quite bad and may need some attention.

Expert Posts: 3155 Location: NY & VT | Nice find! Folks don't realize that CA and other Southwestern cars generally do have some rust too, unless they've spent their entire life in Death Valley, or Palm Desert or super dry areas like Tuscon or Phoenix AZ and the like. The only truly rust free car we've ever had was a '56 Olds 98 Holiday that had never left Phoenix (pic). Otherwise there'a almost always some patching up to do. Regardless, you'll have some fun with this one! Elite Veteran Posts: 827 Location: tailFinland | Yes and even in Southwest people do wash their cars. Some cars of the 50's are not in good reputation to hold water outside. Especially old Mopars Trunk, window, door seals ant weather strips leak. People are lazy to wipe dry trunk floor. It s man made rust in this car too

It s man made rust in this car too Why I said that above, that I thought California was a rust free climate, is because as far as I know my Belvedere has spent its entire life around the Sacramento, CA area. I have checked that car out thoroughly, and besides surface rust, there is no rust cancer. Maybe some cars, even ones out west, differ due to their owners washing them a lot and not drying them off...

Good point, some people really believe they are doing their cars something good by frequently washing them. Unbelieveable but true. And no, there is no "drying off" after washing, where the cars rust you can't dry it off. A car starts rusting from inside out and at the seams, under the chrome and weatherstripping. I know a guy who washed a car (60 full size Dodge coupe) down the drain.

It was in July and it was the hottest day of the year when me and my friend drove to pick it up from the carrier. I almost got a stroke when winching it up to the trailer (IMG_20180726_121749_resized_20181207_075325641.jpg) (IMG_20180726_121629_resized_20181207_075325272.jpg) Attachments ---------------- IMG_20180726_121749_resized_20181207_075325641.jpg (326KB - 238 downloads) IMG_20180726_121629_resized_20181207_075325272.jpg (282KB - 241 downloads)

Elite Veteran Posts: 827 Location: tailFinland | There was quite lot of rot as being a Califorina dry car but they washed cars in Escondido back in the day. At first I thought that trunk floor got only two small spots but then it turned a bit larger area I removed. If I knew I would make it as whole plate. Anyway, I gonna save her rat look but still do everything else like in restoration. I'll save in a paint job and rechroming but not in labor.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | Hah yeah, ive been there done that... I was like "eh trunk isnt bad"... next thing you know you are replacing pretty much the whole thing. I just went through that nightmare. Old cars all all like that though. I had the exact same thing happen to my 70 GTO... These cars really arent any much worse than others... once rot sets in, it just spreads. I bought a body for it thinking it was okay for the GTO... It ended up so bad I got a new shell and even still had to do a lot to it. If I didn't like doing it, it would suck but I actually like restoring more than driving now I think... I must be messed up in the head. I cant do the rat rod thing, i understand the amount of work and money it is to paint a full vehicle also, i guess thats why I got into doing bodywork. It would suck to have to pay 5-10k-25k for a paint job. Thats a lot of cash for most folks and usually isn't worth it. I
