I really like these cars. Could be a nice ride for someone, although I would yank that DeSoto hemi out of there and install a Chrysler hemi in its place.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/142812327542?ul_noapp=true

Here is a very nice 1948 Chrysler Highlander Convertible..in a nice factory original dark blue color. I believe they call it St. Claire Blue...I have had this car for over 15 years, always been inside, and I have done a TON of work to it. It's almost done...and I have run out of steam. The old Washington plate is still on the car..last licensed in 1967.
1953 Desoto "Fire Dome" Hemi v-8, all professionally rebuilt(with receipts) by Richard Tabor's Automotive Machine shop, Vancouver,Wa. Richard build race motors for many of the local drag racers and is a Hemi expert. The motor has been shop run and the cam has been broken in correctly. mated to a Mopar 4-speed trans. Motor mounts and trans mounts/crossmember new . Engine bay sheet metal work all done to look stock..excellent workmanship to install that v-8 in where a flathead 6 resided. Brake shoes and wheel cylinders all new. Brand new Coker tires all the way around and original hubcaps with new trim rings. The original wiring is in very decent shape..These cars had Auger screw-type convertible top motors..not hydraulic like most...trouble free and they work. Was a much better idea in my opinion. The top frame is reconditioned and a new EZ black top is included..still in the box. see photos.
All the upholstery is done in the exact match to the original highlander plaid..except the burgundy on the seat is real Leather and not vinyl. Carpet is new. This car is super solid..minor welding underneath in a couple spots... see bare floors photo with seats and carpet out..Trunk, sills and body panels super solid.Original Paint car with nice patina..maybe wet sand it and clearcoat if you want that unrestored original look or just polish it. I have not taken chrome polish or paint polish to this car yet. It will come alive. It needs a driveshaft, clutch/shifter linkage hooked up and some misc. wing, like ignition switch etc.
The Hemi Engine was just run and the cam broken in..has breakin oil in it now.also have a new aluminum radiator..stock radiator(pictured) is exceptionally nice....some rechroming has been done..hood bird, fender spear and all the rest is original brightwork in above average condition.
This car does not need much to finish and to enjoy. All the hard work is done. This is a rare, primo dry, not rusty, never damaged Western car, not a midwest rust wagon.Never driven in salt, always inside. You just don't find them like this..Western US car. Go find a stock one, do what I have done with the mechanical, upholstery, hemi v-8 at the machine shop, fabricate all the fitments and mounting and see how much you spend. you'd be losing money just like me on this project...it's a deal...Would make a great Father Son project to finish. Very cool car for you Mopar lovers of the Art Deco design age. Please call Jay for more information. 360-852-0589. Thanks for viewing.
buy with confidence...I'm 100% since 1999

I will gladly assist overseas buyers

I wonder if the interior comes with a set of bagpipes and a
pistol to kill yourself with, should someone start playing them ?

I'm pretty sure they did from the factory, and that this is what someone did with the bagpipes from their car . . .

See - everything makes sense now

Bagpipes, man's attempt to mechanically recreate the sound of 1000
fingernails on a chalkboard !

About 15 years ago I was doing a "turn" on a commercial space in an
office building. Some axxclown thought it would be a bright idea to
toss on a kilt and matching cap and stroll about the parking lot playing
his bags. He was met with a hail of encouragement to cease and desist.
This went on day after day on all his work breaks until about 5 days in,
the sound turned to one of a wounded animal. I ran to the window to
see what had happened and saw Captain Axxclown staggering to regain
an upright position, holding his head with a blood-covered hand.

Turned out, someone with a dead-for-rights arm, sacrificed a full bottle
of beer (Guiness ?) for a 100 foot shot to the guy's bean, driving home
the point that the score was 1 for playing bags at work, an entire building
of votes against.

The bags never came out again for as long as we were working there.

I love a happy ending.

You may not like that fabric, but I bet it is the factory pattern.

Absolutely.

Goes back to at least 1941:

https://auto.howstuffworks.com/1940-1942-chrysler-new-yorker-highlan...

But once the US was in WWII, the tartan was appropriated to send to Scotland for kilts so the Scottish regiments had something to wear when they were playing their bag pipes and scaring the begezzus out of the Germans.

Here's another 1948:

(where **** = a four letter word that starts with c**k.

Mopar had a fascination with plaid fabrics at least back to the war years.
DeSotos as late at 59 had special plaid interior options. Finding one with
the "La Femme"-like bagpiper's kit is incredibly hard to do.

I think it's cool so is the one in the factory photo. These are neat cars, don't see them too often.

Because the listing is over. Ebay recently started substituting other listings in their place. Another possibility is that the original seller "relisted" the car, but put a different car there for sale. A shortcut so that he didn't have to go through all the process from the beginning again.

If the new black top is "EZ", why is it still in the box and not on?
