1967 383 4 barrel intake.

I'm going to replace the valley pan gasket and was wondering if anyone knew the correct tightening sequence for the bolts?

Also does 40ft-lb sound correct for the bolts and 9ft-lb for the valley pan rail bolts?

First time doing this so does anyone have any tips I may need?

Bolt tightening patterns usually start in the center and radiate outward or, in the case of a B-RB, start at the center and zig-zag toward the ends.
Yes, 40lb-ft is correct for a 3/8" bolt.
Tip: use a soft setting sealer, I like Permatex, on the ends of the block especially at the corners. If you must use an rtv then use it very carefully...you
don't want that crap finding its way to the oil pump. Do not use rtv as a thread sealant.

Thanks for the info.

Sorry I forgot about the bolts. Should I use a thread sealer or a thread locker?

Use thread sealant sparingly, especially when dealing with a blind hole.
In a blind hole excess sealant/dope can build-up ahead of the bolt and either stop the bolt short or actually break the casting in some situations.

BB intake bolt holes aren't blind, they go through to the interior of the head and oil can wick up the threads, that's why some use sealer.

Great, thanks all for the input.. I always get a little put off or nervous when doing gaskets or the sealing of something.
