1959 DESOTO FIREDOME BLUE CONVERTIBLE

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Desoto-Firedome-Convertible/292594807260...
Located in Welshpool West Australia

Purchased around 13 years ago in Georgia USA.

A true barn find and the last tags on the licence plates were in 1969. A low milage car but needing full resto.

There was very little rust which is unusual for these Forward Look era cars, the early retirement from daily driving is most likely the cause of that.

1 of 299 made and 59 was the last year for convertibles for Desoto. An original convertible with the original build sheet from the Daimler Chrysler museum verifying that.

100% original, that’s why there is points in the distributor and drum brakes all around.

The colour is an original Desoto colour.

The convertible top is made of BMW Haartz canvas and is one of the few things not original.

Just about everything on the convertible is new, NOS or restored.

The clock was rebuilt by Jay Lenos workshop contacts.

The radio was brought over to the states to be restored and she has had FM added to the insides but she looks 100% original.

Car location in Western Australia, you will be responsible for your own shipping and import fees

About 20 min from me, so if anyone is serious about this car, I can put eyes on it for you

I havnt seen this car personally anywhere yet, but I don't follow the show/car club scene much, so not surprised

To people that know what the car is, its very interesting, but here in Australia most US mopars of this era are unknown even the ones that also got built here.

A lot of people didn't know what my phoenix was or that it was built here, they mostly thought it was a converted (to right hand drive) import

The ones built here only ever sold in relatively low numbers, so were rare here, even when new

Unless they appeared in a cult movie (like Christine) the demand wont be high here

This car is a "world car" and its more likely to sell to an overseas (from Australia) person than to stay here I think

Nice car but has a '57/58 steering wheel, the door side top trim piece needs to be straightened out, and the glove-box aligned properly... surprising, given the detail it seems to have been given overall. Also what's with the wavy metal tag? I think its ok to be critical of a car in this price class that says "100% original... fully restored pristine condition"... just sayin'. I own a '59 Firedome, so that's my $.02.

I would love to own it......who wouldn’t, but I have a feeling the price plus shipping to the USA puts this baby well out of my reach unfortunately

I think that glove box fitment is very authentic!!!l LOL!

It is a stunning car in the flesh. The guy that restored this gem is very passionate around '59 Desoto's. The Aussie dollar is low against the USD. Good time to repatriate it home. Otherwise it has a certain Nordic appeal.

I think the guy that built it is Anders (Andrew)

If it is, I saw this car while it was still in the build

I repaired some electric window switches for him

Nice bloke by the way
