Anyone know if the hot heads 4 barrel aluminum intake will clear the hood on a 57 imperial?

It looks like it will raise the carb some. I am interested in shedding some of the weight and having a more modern intake manifold.

Thanks for any input

It's close. When I tested it out on a '57 Windsor with a 354, it did fit because you are replacing the carb with a shorter AFB too. But the 392 is taller and much closer to the hood so I am not so sure. The WCFB carb is 4.25" tall, while the AFB is 3.75" tall. So you gain .5" by swapping the carbs. But the Hot Heads Manifold is 1 3/8 taller than the stock intake. So the net result is an increase of 7/8". So put a 1" spacer under the WCFB carb and check for clearance to your hood. If you are already running an AFB, then put a 1.5" spacer under your current AFB and check for clearance.

They squished down the 392 intake vs the 331/354 for hood clearance....Think the HH one is based on those.

Just keep in mind that this swap will turn into a mini project. Anything that had once bolted to you intake manifold will no longer attach, so you'll have to come up with new mounts. In my '56 Imperial, that meant new throttle linkage, coil mount, generator/alternator bracket and a few coolant connections.

What is the 'goal'?
What makes for a 'more modern' intake?
Losing weight is not a bad thing as long as the project doesn't end up doubling the initial cost envisioned.

If you are planning on a carb swap, and the intake is an add-on, then the items jboymechanic mentions are just part of the deal.
With the stock manifold, when using a carb with much larger throttle bores, a 3310 Holley for example, then performance can be improved by machining
the intake to match the base gasket; enlarging the existing bores to 1-11/16". This is not simply boring out the holes however, the bore centerlines must move.
A simple spacer is then added to change the bolt pattern.

Considering the potenrial costs involved in a new manifold and carb, you might consider something like a FiTech unit.

Wayfarer, that is the goal. I will be doing a fuel injection conversion. My car is not stock nor do I care about stock at this point. I picked up an old 2 door 57 imperial a few years ago no engine but had a 392 hemi with no home sitting in my garage so there is the start. It was a mess to start, interior trashed, no engine, rusted rockers, and rusted trunk. The rest is fairly solid. I redid the dash, put 4 wheel discs and kept the original bolt pattern, 15 inch wheels and the 59 hub caps, IMPERIAL valve covers(58 year only) later style booster and master cylinder, later AC compressor, power steering pump, and alternator, electronic ignition, custom interior, new paint, overdrive trans with a pushbutton kit to keep the original buttons, rear parking brake, replaced the broken glass, will use the 58 model year flight sweep trunk lid emblem, changed the rear package tray a little. The rear defogger was originally plumbed into one of the sides (there are 3 6x9 cutouts) I plumbed it into the center so a 6x9 can be added to both sides in the rear tray. New power antenna.

Its getting there. Everything works now on the dash. Added a flasher circuit for the parking brake so it flashes and has the audible sound when the parking brake is engaged. Simple to delete if it get sick of it.

Hot Heads says the newer intake is 7 3/8 inches from the valley to the carb mounting surface in case anyone wants the height of it.
