The Texan is wierd. Stripper Coronet interior (based on the door panel) but Custom Royal exterior trim (some missing) and taillights

Almost all Texans I have seen were Coronet-based. I have never
understood why. If the idea was making sales on "Texas pride", why
would they often be the cheapo model ???

Odd that those kick up moulding holes are there, yet someone did
the paint line to follow the proper Coronet moulding line, with no kick
up. Why not weld the holes up BEFORE you paint ? Now, it is a real
production to weld them up and patch paint.

My thoughts on the 56.
Pretty sweet gas tank in the trunk. At least I think it's the acting gas tank. Missing some chrome pieces and arm rests. Makes me wonder what else has been slapped together.

I believe that armrests were an option on the Coronet so no fault there.

As for the gas tank, I saw the new (home made) straps and the black paint and assumed that it was all good. Missed the hose from the Napa bottle.

The gold paint around the taillights is another issue. Should be the roof colour, in this case, white.

Noticed that each door jam has wires coming out of them and into the door... I thought it might have hidden speakers behind the door cards.

Hmmm... *IF* I believed that, I could also believe that I see a round 4" or 5" speaker indent on the passenger door below the window crank, just above the black lower bit.

That's interesting to know about the arm rests. Does anyone know what the "Texan" package included? The tail light bezels and headlight bezels are an upgrade over a stock Coronet aren't they? My thinking is the Texan package as an upgrade it could have offered arm rests.

Would the fin mouldings around the tail light area always be chromed? Looks like this car has them sprayed silver.

At one time I had a keen interest in Texans, after I found a pair of emblems
for one. I asked anyone I could about them and came up with more mystery
than answers. The package idea was floated by a group of Texas Dodge dealers,
and based on the fact that Texan parts are listed in the factory parts book, they
obviously gained factory support for the project. As far as I ever learned, no
literature had ever surfaced. That may have changed since the interweb thing
came along. Anyway, it was unclear just what made a Texan a Texan, besides
badging. It seems 56 was the year the idea began and most surviving Texans
are 56's. But the parts book shows Texan badges listed through 59 Model year,
and the part numbers are different for each year, so it is clear that these weren't
lingering numbers for a forgotten product.

Most Texans seem to be basic, bottom-of-the-line cars. This mystifies me, but
that is what the fossil evidence shows. Custom trim level cars are rare with the
Texan badging. Go figure. They did not get upgraded bezels or trim. I believe
that those on this car were latter day swaps, but if they are original to the car,
likely added at the dealer or special ordered from the factory and not part of an
official Texan package. I have seen about a dozen and a half Texans over the years,
and while I know better than to think "X" never happened, a bezel upgrade was
not present on the other cars to suggest it was part of a package.
