Hi, everyone. I've been visiting this site for a while now but just recently became a member. I wanted to join the forum once I had a Forward Look car of my own, but I could really use some advice in getting one.

I saw a nice '57 Belvedere sedan in the For Sale part of the forum and I really like it, but it is in Texas, while I'm in NY.
Now, I have never bought a car before, and the fact that this car is halfway across the country adds to the number of questions and uncertainties for me, but if it means I can get a running 1957 Plymouth, it will be worth it in the end.

So, I was hoping maybe some of you could either share your experiences or the do's and don't's of buying a car (long distance or short distance). That way I can determine whether to go for it or wait for a car that I can examine in person before buying.
Any help is appreciated.

Get a video of it running! Send an inspector to check it out.

ask a texas guy if he can look at it, offer some cash if you want. Texas is huge so maybe no ones close? realize you have options with a sedan but prices are going up.

were kind of experts.

Ask for detailed pics on trouble areas.

have him take it to a garage and get the compression checked/inspection if you can get the seller to do it. These are antiques and things will be wrong with them normally.

you mean the frediicksburg one? offer 7500$, that car looks very clean.

That's what I did, cost me $225 6 years ago. Inspector sent around 100 pictures and a detailed report, plus a video of it running on 7 cylinders and spewing smoke. Home made rocker panels that had poor fit. Loads of body filler. Best money I ever spent to not buy a car.

Thanks for the advice, everybody, and yes, it's the Fredericksburg one I'm looking at. Member drosera88 said he would take a look for me. Hopefully this car runs on all 8 cylinders.
