I just acquire some cruise control parts which came off a confirmed 1959 Chrysler.

Here is the gas pedal throttle linkage assembly. The orange section is a piece cut out of the floor of the car so it is clear how it was installed & how it operates.

I assume one of the holes in the hook section would be for the cruise control rod (Auto Pilot Link) connecting directly to the Servo (Auto Pilot) & the other hole would be for the linkage to the carburetor. Am I correct?

Can anyone shed more light on this, or have some additional pics to assist?

In my last two pics, I also have another hook assembly, although it's incomplete, probably rusted away. Anyway, it has a slightly different shape so I assume it is for a 1958 or perhaps a 1960 Chrysler or,... possibly its relative to an Imperial cruise set-up. Anyone have any ideas about this one?

Anyone with literature relative to 1958 &/or 1959 cruise control? Could you post it or send it to me?

Thanks, appreciate any assistance/clarification

The bit that is clamped on to the accelerator pedal "hook" must be for the cruise control. You might want to look through my accelerator pedal thread. Presumably the part you are looking for is in the list of 1958 (?) Chrysler Automatic Pilot parts (see below):

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=66984&...

Showing the throttle rod connection to a non-cruise control gas pedal "hook" complete with ball-end threaded stud.

The linkages seems to be 58/59 - '60 Chryslers had a different linkage.

I have some documentation - check my profile and send me an email.....

First a request: Please don't create multiple copies of your post in different sections! It makes it very difficult to refer to later and causes a lot of confusion. Also putting it where it belongs like in this section, makes it easier to find than in the general discussion area.

OK, with that off my chest, here are pictures of auto pilot components from a 1958 Chrysler. The pedal and upper pivot are the same as on any other car. They just attach a bracket to the arm of the pedal to create another link. That other link is quite long to extend up to the actuator.

This is the servo and hydraulic brake switch from the same car. Notice that the brake switch is not the same as what you can purchase at a hardware store. It is all one piece.

Seems like a good place to post the auto pilot brochure from 1958.

In follow-up to one of the above pics & relative to the application or usage of a Hydraulic Brake Switch in all 1958, 1959 & obviously early 1960 cars, I have located this Chrysler Corp. Service Bulletin dated June 29, 1960.

This Bulletin is quite self-explanatory.

What I find interesting however, is that reference is made to the 1960 Chrysler and Imperial Service Manual leading to this question?

Can one deduce that prior to the issuance of this Manual that there was nothing issued previously to it? Except perhaps for some previous Service Bulletins.

If anyone has a copy of a Chrysler Corp. Service Manual issued prior to 1960 specifically covering the AP Cruise Control, please let all of us know & if such could be posted, it would be really appreciated.

Well, further investigation has located another Chrysler Corp. Service Bulletin dated August 17, 1960 which is attached.

I believe this Bulletin confirms that while Chrysler Corp. was the very first to introduce the driver operated voluntary speed control or AP, it wasn't until 1960 did they provide all of their Chrysler & Imperial Dealers with a detailed Servicing Manual.....

In follow-up to my investigations, I have now located PART 2, of the very first ever Chrysler Corp'n AP SERVICE BULLETIN (or SERVICE MANUAL) which covers

in detail ALL of the Sections I thru III as outlined in the above Service Bulletin dated Aug. 17/1960 & starting with Page # 26.....

This Service Manual covers the Auto Pilot for both Chryslers & Imperials when first made available in 1958. It provides very clear details of the 1960 AP but

ALSO covers in detail, the AP for the 1958 & 1959 model years.

If anyone would like a copy of it, just let me know & I will e-mail it to you.

The auto pilot system used 2 sets of brake switches, a hydraulic switch at the master cylinder, and a mechanically activated switch at the pedal assembly. You can see both of these mentioned in the picture at the top of this page. When I first tore apart the car that had this autopilot feature on it, I originally thought that this switch setup was home-made by a previous owner. But looking at it carefully, It's obvious that this is a factory setup. It uses 2 brackets to hold the switch in the proper position and to activate it. I plan to document these brackets when I get around to putting my car together so others can duplicate them if they wish.

the 200 is the black painted one i got from ebay... I think it might be the dodge/plymouth.

It has ever so subtle differences...
