Hi fellow Forward lookers :-)

Just bought this 1957 Dodge Regent 2dr ht...

-Just need to get it home to Denmark :-)

I have got some quotes from different haulers / shippers, but it seems to be a problem to ship, if this car doesn't have any registration papers...

-Would it be difficult / expensive for the seller to get e.g. a salvage title ?

You mean you bought it and the car doesn't have a title and you didn't sort that and shipping out first?! Do you have an idea how many cars I had to let go because of the title and shipping problem? Well.... I wish you lots of luck!!!

I don't know about Canada, but in the US, you wouldn't need a salvage title. The current owner would have to apply for a title on it, and it isn't that difficult to do. But it can take quite a while for everything to come through. That's the biggest headache with it. He will also likely have to pay for sales taxes on it, so there will be cost associated with it.

Well, I kind of knew that it would be a problem, but I couldn't let this car go....-not many around of these rare Canadian built only cars around anymore, and especially in 2dr ht, and it might take 10 years before another one comes for sale again...

I have imported a car before from Canada, in 2003, and back then it was enough with a Bill of sale....

-Some of the shipping companies say they can ship without, and some (unfortunately with the cheapest rates..) says they don't...

Well, it is a 57 Plymouth with a 57 Dodge front clip and this car looks like it needs a new nose anyway...

I don't know Canadian laws but in the US if you get an appraisal and insurance bond for the value my state will issue a new title if the old one cannot be found. This is assuming there is no record of the old title. This is not very expensive and can be done in a short amount of time.

I think he is talking about shippers worried about moving stolen cars..

I would think you need to call the shipper directly. Maybe get a title search on it? I Canada that the current owner could do.

Maybe have the previous owner file for lost title. That and a bill of sale would probably let the shipper feel at ease.

Where in Canada did you purchase the Regent? I don't know of any Provinces that use titles, like most U.S. states do. Here in Alberta, we just transfer vehicles via a bill of sale. Makes it easy (and cheap) to sell a vehicle, but makes it much harder to transfer it outside of Canada.
