I want to replace the shocks on my 55 Desoto. After reading the previous threads on this subject, I'm confused about the front shock. For KYB, some folks say it's the KG 4507 while others say it's the KG 4550.Which is correct ?

Folks are in general agreement that rear is KG 5511.

Ron, for the coil spring front end cars like yours (55-56) its the KG 4550. The other model is for the torsion suspension cars ('57 up.). Rear is 5511. You will have to widen out the lower mounting slots to fit the factory screws in the lower control arm.
