Hey guys, I'm looking for info/opinions about Diamond back tires. I googled diamond back and found an assortment of tires. The diamond 1 seems like it is what I'm looking for. It has a 460AA UTQG rating, 112mph speed rating and max tire press at 44psi. on a Nexen tire, I've never heard of Nexen tires. Anyone else heard of them? Which tire are you running on your car. I'd like to hear any comments, good or bad about these tires. P215/75R15's on a 59 Dodge with tru-spoke wire wheels. This car gets used and enjoyed a lot, so am looking for a WWW tire to run smoothly at 70mph and last 30k -40k miles. And where did you get them? Thanks, Jerry

I've had DB tires since 2010 on my 60 Saratoga. Made by Cooper, P235-75R15 and they are probably equivalent to what they now called Diamondback 1. No issues with the treads, or balancing or wear. Great tires that ride nicely. My issues were that the whitewalls kept developing bulges near the rim where the whitewall came in contact / was pinched under the rim. The white was actually separating from the black rubber. After several years of warranty replacement tires they finally figured out what to do, and they ended up making the whitewalls so that the white part of the tire doesn't get pinched under the rim, in fact there is a very narrow band of black that you can see between the whitewall and the rim, if you look closely but it's negligible. I drive the car a lot, and typically these tires started showing the bulges after about 4000 miles of driving, every time, mostly on the front tires that take all the stress. They told me it's because my car is so big and heavy. It looks like what they've done will cure the issue. For your Dodge I would recommend P225-75R15. I bought directly from Diamondback.

I have BF GOodrich's that Diamondback sold me...with whitewalls. I don't think they make their own tires but rather use other brands to base their offering on. I think.

Mine have been perfect in every way. Quiet, no issues, just perfect.

Hey Guys, I did some checking around and found out that Diamond back 1 tire is on a Nexen tire built in Korea. The Diamond back 11 tire is built on a Toyo tire built in Japan. All the names and lettering are scuffed off the white wall side to get a smooth surface but are left on the back side of the tire. The DB 11 has a higher UTQG rating than the DB 1 but is slightly more expensive. I personally have a bit of a problem putting Jap tires on my FL car, but BFGoodrich tires are not working out well at all. I'm not fond of lawyers, but someone should start a class action lawsuit against BFG concerning their Silvertown radial. I for one would certainly get on board. I'm hoping I can sell these Silvertown's to someone who has a 'trailer queen' and recoup some of the 'hard lesson' expense. BFG needs to add a disclaimer to those tires "Not For High Speed Driving" Jerry

My Cali tires have been perfect so far too. They balance, handle and ride very well. Like Diamondback, the whitewall on them are also applied over a different manufacturer's tire; Hancook in this case. The only issue with them is the blackwall bleeds into the whitewall over time, causing them to yellow with age. So you have to whiten them every now and then. I knew this ahead of time, but decided to go with them anyway because they are less than 1/2 the price of Diamondbacks. It seemed like it was worth the savings just to do some extra work to keep them nice looking.

Diamondback has a patented process to keep the black rubber oils from bleeding through to the whitewall.

Yep, I'm sure that's why they don't have the yellowing issues that Cali tires do. I just wish that patented process didn't cost more than 2X as much

Interesting Ian, how long have you been using the latest version of DB's?

Only positive experience the DB. The tires, not the sales person.

Had a set of DiamondBack tires for years - worked very well and we put a lot of miles on them. Switched to some bias plys on those wheels, but I would buy another set any time. They were pretty helpful answering questions prior to the order as well.

Hey Nathan,
What size Cali tires did you go with? Still happy with them?

I went with 235-70 x 15 on 15x7 rims. What you can use will depend on what rims you are using. I am really happy with them. Their only flaw is that they will yellow quite a bit over time, so if you don't want to whiten them on occasion, then they are not for you. But they are 1/2 the price of Diamondbacks and just as good, if it weren't for the yellowing issue.
