Does anyone know how thick the jute padding was on Imperials? I've asked on other sites and never got an answer. I see various thicknesses for sale and I'm trying to make this car as quiet as possible. Thanks

G'day Christian, in my 60 Imp the original under carpet padding was approx 1/2 inch thick!. When I replaced the carpet (with the heavy duty backing), I used a layer of 8 mm closed cell foam with foil, and a layer of similar style under carpet Jute, and then the heavy duty carpet. It all fit pretty good, and I think is approx 3/4 inch thick overall. My Car is extremely quiet!

Steve.

Not saying that you should follow my example but before I put my new carpet down with the "synthetic jute" (polyester or something) backing, I applied Dynamat, Eastwood X-mat (thin) and Eastwood X-mat (thick) on my next to perfect bare floors. I am very happy with the results.

During the process:

So far I have coated the floor with por-15, put down two layers of Fatmat and temporarily put down the carpet. The car is pretty darn quiet, but I want to add the Jute padding. Thanks for the comments.

If your carpet doesn't have a insulation backing or even if it does, you might want to check out this from Stock Interiors (it's modern, non-biodegradable "jute"):
