I've got a few answers. Kinda odd I guess.
I'm looking for overall width (drum to drum) of a 1958 Plymouth rear end. Car is a two door hardtop if it matters.
I've been told 60.75"
I've been told 61.75"

Anybody have a definitive answer??
Thanks

Well.... if anybody on this forum anymore.... this is what I've found so far.
60.75" SHOULD BE the overall width of a 1958 Plymouth rear. I will know in a week.
The 65-69 C body rear that is SUPPOSED to be a direct bolt in is actually 61.75" wide drum to drum. It's one inch wider than a 1958 Plymouth. Not a huge deal unless tight tire fitting clearance.

I'm going to get the car to my place, use my trusty old measuring tape, and figure it out allll by myself. lol
Thanks!

The overall rear end width of all '57-'61 full-sized cars is 60 7/8" from drum-to-drum; verified by my tape measure.

The '65-'69 C-body is 61 5/8" also verified by me. I just completed this swap recently.

57Chizler,

Did you encounter a difference in the perch dimension?  If so, how did you overcome it?  I've bought the same rear end and was considering -

1) 2" wide leaf springs with an inboard spacer to push out the leaf spring lug 1/4"

2) New 2 & 1/2 leaves with an offset drilled hole to pick up on the wider rear

3) Lowering blocks with and offset pin arrangement   ( discounted due to U bolt interference)

Thanks.... Colin

When I put a 68 Ply fury axel ass'y under wifes 59 dodge I had a Fab shop move the spring mounts about 3/8" ( if I remember correctly ) He welded them back in place for the 3 degree pinion angle. It worked out well. Didn't cost much either. And everything mated up like it is supposed to. Jerry

Yes Jerry, 3/8" per side is my recollection too;  I can weld and take a diff apart but I dont want to !!!

None of the above, I simply plopped it onto the spring's alignment pins and bolted it in. The bushings in the springs will flex enough to take up the 1/2" difference in the spring centers.

The FL spring centers are 45 1/2" and the later C-body is 46".

There must have been a temporary distortion of space & time caused by a supernova event that crossed the universe through a black hole to cause the distortion in measurement between you two. That's the only plausible answer I could come up with.

LOL No worries as a 66/67 B body rear is going in!!!!
I measured a few times, as it's not the same measurement as any I've seen.

Are you measuring the width by wrapping a tape measure over the pumpkin area? If so, the measurement will be long. The correct way is to measure across two straight edges placed on each wheel mounting surface of the brake drums.
