I believe that's Mike's car. I only know of one more like it owned by Gary (1959Dodge). Beautiful cars. The '58 New Yorker is really hard to find, and in convertible form, nearly impossible. In comparison, I got my '58 2dr New Yorker for free! But I have already spent around $7K on it, and it doesn't even have paint, upholstery or any drivetrain in it yet. -

It had a 9k hour restoration. It's the nicest car in my collection. The only other one for sale can be bought for probably 100 and would need years and well over 100k to get it to the same condition. I have the 57 and 59. My plan has to get the 57-58-59NY convertibles to sit beside the 57-58-59 adventurer convertibles and the 58 and 59 dodge convertibles. The best cars don't follow market trends, they'll always be outliers.

I just read an article that said you cannot overpay for the very best.  Congrats, Mike.  Montana car, eh?  Did it belong to Gary Goers?

Tom Gerrard. He had some amazing cars. I don't know how long I will do the collecting. I love doing it because my father loves it. He's 75 and in great health. As long as he's kicking, I'll be playing around in this stuff. He lives and breaths this stuff and that makes me happy.

Very cool!  Tom and his dad owned the spruce and willow green Firedome too, right?  The New Yorker looks like and amazing car.  Do you have a link to more images?  I'd love to see all the different views, the interior, and the engine bay! Someday, I would love to come out and see your collection in person.

It's gorgeous. I shot these photos of the car at the WPC National Meet, in Sacramento in 2009.

We're getting images loaded for the museum. My work life has had to dominate a lot recently, so things slowed down more than I wanted. I've been focusing on adding a lot of signs and automobila. Within a month I should have most of the images up.

About 8 years ago, a 1956 DeSoto Fireflite convertible sold by Bob Schmidt at Barrett-Jackson for $368,500. The car was Plum and Lavender in color. Smitty's Classic Cars (Bob Schmidt) has a twin to this very car for sale right now for $165,000 if anyone is interested complete with the factory record player, DeSotomatic steering wheel clock, power windows and seat. It is also equipped with a dual four DeSoto HEMI engine and is a full frame off restoration.

The images shown below are of the car that is now for sale. These pictures were taken at the Mecum auction in Indianapolis earlier this year where it did not sell. It undoubtedly is one of the most beautiful DeSotos on the planet and always gathered a crowd. Smitty just wants to move the car as he has others he needs to keep working on so the price is reduced significantly from what he would like to get for it. FYI, the color of the top matches the dark plum of the car.

Yep, and I still have that 58 New Yorker convertible. It runs and looks great and I have many posts of it up on Youtube.
I also still have the 1959 Dodge Coronet, (that the seller converted to a Custom Royal).
I will probably sell the Dodge this year, as I'm 76 years old, and I don't need 3 classic cars anymore.
I rarely do shows, but I do drive them around town.

I still have the 1964 Dodge Polara 500 with the 426 We3dge, that I bought new whien I was 21 years old.

Lets see If I can recall how to add a picture here.

For example, Do a search for 1958 Chrysler New Yorker, It will show up on the first page of the search.

Man resale red and when the tops goes the price goes up. I more than bet all us wonder what our cars are worth and how many of the models were built with what options. I do mine out of simply a love hate relationship. I love to have them but I hate the work and money it takes and I will never to buy able to buy one allready done. I did put 1 picture of my car on the forward look face book page. On another site one of the moderators loads pictures of imperials on the web site. He titled mine a vare rare and uniquie '56 Imperial Southampton. The vin for mine is a #70 for the crown series and it is #72 I guess of the build numbers. What number of what it is I will never know. But it is original and no it is not a frame off restoration. The under what's covered is all original and it only has a tad over 12K on the odometer. Personally I'm waiting to see a mopar, other than a Super Bird or a '69 Challenger convertible with a 426 Hemi and 4 spd, of which I think only 2 were built. But hey hats off to everyone doing this in their own garage. Takes a partially lunatic to take a car and make it new again after 50-70 years, with maybe 40-60 of them years the car is used as a chicken coop.

Welcome back to the board Gary! Love your 58 New Yorker.

I do enjoy driving a nice forward look car around, but I also enjoy working on them too. It is a great activity to keep you in shape and give you exercise without going to a gymn. As long as you aren’t in a hurry, you can enjoy the process.
