Subject: 57 Imperial - rear bumper reflection

I just installed the freshly re-chromed rear bumper on this 57 Imperial and as you know, there's a gap between the bumper and the body just above it. The problem is, the bumper is now so shiny that it's reflecting the ugly underside of the trim by the trunk. The screws and such are now very visible to anyone looking at the back bumper.

Was this how the car was originally designed or was there some type of rubber flap or insert originally designed to hide those details?

Same on my car, and i think there was no flap to fill the gap.

So, paint the ugly underside of the trim by the trunk matte black - problem solved.
