During my Sunday AM eBay/Google cruise for all things 1956 Dodge, I bumped into an old advert for a 1956 Dodge Custom Sierra D500 Wagon for sale in France last year. The car sold for about 21,000 Euros so actually not a bad price considering. The ad still had all (20) of its photos so I've archived them. One of the photos was the cowl tag. Now to try to figure out what it means.

The car is a 4 door wagon so Sierra. It has the hooded headlight "doors" so Custom, i.e. Custom Sierra. Body code = 858 so 857 for a 2dr Suburban wagon from DepsilonD in my 56 Dodge Body code thread must mean the first 8 = V8, the 5 = wagon and 8 = Sierra 4 dr and 7 = Suburban 2 dr. (BUT I could be wrong) ')

The car:

The engine bay (D500 engine, Power Brakes but no Power Steering)

The interior (I have seen this before)(examples in this thread: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=65230&... )

The cowl tag (not shown but the VIN is a 35.... so Detroit built)

So we can see 0705 = Scheduled for build on July 5th (1956 pretty late in the build year), BDY = 858 as discussed above.

PNT (paint) 060 = obviously Jewel Black and Sapphire white

TRM = 8?? maybe 865??? I can't tell.

Build codes = should flag the PB and engine and ??

366 = ?

382 = ?

596? 59something = ?

Maybe Chrycoman will see the "BatSignal" and chime in (Please Bill)

Last night while cruising the net for all things 1956 Dodge, I came across an older posting about this D500 Sierra in France. At that time, it was for sale in the UK (which fits with the French car's story, i.e. bought by a Brit who drove it in France).

This: https://www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2012-11-24/car/dodge-d50...

Anyway, there was a few photos of the car from 2012 and one of them showed a large NASCAR sticker in the lower corner of the driver's side of the windshield. Made me think of the photo that have been posted about the Nascar Dodge Sierra wagons (which I can't find now of course). Anyway, I wonder if the British/Frence D500 Sierra had a direct link to NASCAR back in the day.

Okay, I might be getting obsessed with this 56 D500 Custom Sierra Wagon. Found this (below). Looks like it is from a magazine, probably from England. Anybody with knowledge of the magazine and the article. (I *NEED* to find/buy it)
