Member Posts: 27 | I have to replace my 5 year old battery and wondered if someone can advise me on the maximum size battery I can replce it with. I don't have an electric fuel pump installed so sometimes I have to crank it over a number of times to start it. Thanks

Thanks You might want to consider going with a Pertronix ignition conversion and Pertronix coil. I switched and my engine fires right up much better than it did with dual points and a normal 12V coil and ballast resistor. http://www.pertronix.com/ 59 in Calif - 2018-10-29 9:55 AM I always buy a batt with the longest warranty life as possible that will fit in the batt tray. Agree. I am running a Group 24 battery in my 56 Dodge but I think that a Group 27 would fit. I think a Group 27 is what a 56 Chrysler would need. I am in Canada and am looking at this one: FEATURES MotoMaster Nautilus Group 27 Starting & Deep Cycle Battery is a premium starting and deep cycle battery Engineered for power, stamina and reliability Start your boat and/or power accessories such as trolling motors or electronics Group size 27 800 marine cranking amps, 80 amp hours, 150 minutes reserve capacity Dimensions are 12.5 L x 6.75 W x 9.3" H (31.8 x 19.6 x 23.6 cm) Edited by 56D500boy 2018-10-29 11:43 AM (Group27Battery.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Group27Battery.jpg (28KB - 146 downloads)

Expert Posts: 3777 Location: NorCal | I'd go with a Group 27 with the highest CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) you can find.

I measured 12.5" at the top (and presumably at the bottom). The maximum space that I have in my existing 56 Dodge rubber battery tray is about 11.5". The Group 24 that I am running is about 10.5". The larger battery tray (for the Group 27 batteries) was 12.875" long but I don't have that tray. Too bad. Oh well. Expert Posts: 2308 Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | Now that's interesting. I am talking about the searchable parts book for the 1955-58 Mo Par line. I have this book in its original format (paper in a binder) with pen and ink corrections made by partsmen at the local Chrysler dealership back in the day as they say, but I didn't know there was apparently a copy on line that can be searched. Do you have the website url where that resource can be found?

Do you have the website url where that resource can be found? Yes, I have posted the link several times during my 2 years on this forum. Downloadable service manuals are available here: http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=109 The parts catalogs are available here: http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=107 How I personally use them is shown here: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=66548&... Have fun. I have the paper versions for both the full lines for 56 American Mopars and 56 Canadian Mopars but I use the pdf version daily. Edited by 56D500boy 2018-11-06 1:32 PM
