I don't think this one sets a record. I surely won't be a buy anywhere close to 300 on it. I'm not a fan of the interior. I'm going to ask them for a full inspection report to see if it's numbers matching and all of that.

Neat car but for a Coronet the door panels and seat fabric is wrong. Converts got the sedan seat material, not the hardtop material.

What the heck is going on with the lancer emblems on the fins!?

It was on eBay back in July:

hopefully that's a joke? hopefully they didn't drill holes in the wrong place?

Also has the dreaded JC Whitney hub caps. I hate those, stockers look much better.

There weren't any 15in "stock" wheel covers for 1957. But I believe those are just "stock" 1956 spinner caps. Are they not?

And finally, if you hate JC Whitney caps, I think you're gonna REALLY hate the wheel covers the factory put on their D501 convertible for the 1957 Motor Life road test feature.

The cars are incredibly rare, so there is no need to exaggerate their rarity. There were more than 56 total cars / 6 convertibles built as claimed in the ad.

92 confirmed IBM build cards have been 'found' for D-501s with 10 more suspected 'missing' (which would be 102 total D-501 cars, including the prototypes)

23 of those 92 confirmed builds were convertibles

I'm going off of information that Neil shared on his extensive research with Darrell Davis here: www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=36883

Just noticed that the rear vertical convertible seat back has the swoop in it which is on the Custom Royals convertibles only, Coronets Convertibles have it as straight across the back with no swoop. Subtle trim level differences that are even on HT and Sedans besides convertibles. John

Trim on the taillights is a 58 thing, not a 57 right?

Yes 58 only. Wierd they must have been grabbing parts from all over to finish this thing.

are the door sills glued on? dont see any screw heads...

Front lower valance has a little damage(they almost all do).

Front bumper is nice and straight though

I dont think the Coronet had a stainless air vent grill either.

Hmm...."Mike McC" is asking this question? Really? (Okay, what have you done with the real Mike McC.?)

Don't know why I am answering, but here goes:

But you knew that.

I have a hard time understanding how the brass at B-J condone
or perpetrate such sloppy details and descriptions. There are just
too many good sources for intel on cars these days, be it here for
Forward Look cars or some other group for weird Mercurys or Olds-
-mobiles. The resources are there. For all their hype of being old
car experts, their fact checking is consistently on par with the idiots
at car shows that run their gums with all sorts of nonsense and non-
-factual "facts".

My Coronet convert did, as well as my Suburban wagon.

For the 57-58 Plymouth and Dodges there were two flavours of air vent grill: vanilla (paintable white) and sprinkles (stainless). Desoto and Chrysler had three flavours, those two plus BA-LING!! (Chrome).

Now what this car left the factory with and what the "restorer" added or didn't add later, that is another story (untold).
