Veteran Posts: 267 Location: Sydney | From the diagrams Im looking at, like the one below, my distributor appears 180 degrees out.
On my 413, #1 is where #6 is in the diagram above as is the lead of course. Does it matter? Its obviously been like this for many years, and someone inserted the tang 180 out and just rewired the leads, maybe been like that most of its life. TIA Edited by 1coolbanana 2018-11-07 9:48 PM

Just leave it "as is" until you find a reason to pull the Dizzy.

Do you have an aftermarket electronic distributor? I do now and my 1 is at #7 position which just so happens to be 180 from where you are! I could move the pump gear but Id rather leave it in the OEM position. Not sure if the 361 is the same as 413 though. Edited by 1coolbanana 2019-03-05 11:40 PM

About the other positions mentioned, I think the only way you can have these and still run right is someone put the gear that drives the distributor in wrong. I would probably also leave it as is until the engine has to be disassembled for some other reason.

Expert Posts: 3768 Location: NorCal | If only the distributor is removed and installed 180 out, the error is symmetrical and the wire positions will be off 180 degrees but if the intermediate gear is also removed and installed incorrectly (for instance one tooth off) the wire positions will be asymmetrical.

No, my distributor is standard, but given the interesting quality of the work done on the engine by an earlier owner, I suspect something wonderful inside the block... I did re-insert the distributor with the shaft rotated 180 so the wires are now like the diagram. Pulling the heads off revealed something far far worse :-( Edited by chefothefuture 2019-03-30 12:09 AM
