With all the crappy sequels being made nowadays. Don't you guys think that it's time to make a Christine sequel? Just think how easy it would be to make that movie today with special effects? With the recent success of fury road I think it's time. Why do guys think that they haven't made one yet?

Political correctness in media and entertainment would require that
our protagonist be struggling with racial, cultural, and sexual identity,
as well as a multitude of discriminatory and social injustices. Oh yeah,
and the Plymouth would be subbed out early on for a more environmentally
friendly hybrid or electric car.

Yeah I could see Hollywood screwing it up with a 58 ply that runs on banana peels and solar panels. Hollywood did a horrible job on the gone in 60 seconds sequel. IMO they didn't make the car the star of the movie instead of overpriced actors. I used to run some small town theaters and know this about Hollywood if there is a buck to be made ,they will make it.

doubtful...

Aside from Doc's political ranting yes okay we got it doc... you hate the liberal snowflakes... get over it already... do you people read what you write? Do your whole lives revolve around hate? Yikes...

The issue would be that you "cant" replace Christine... since the car was about 30 years old in the film... what 30 year old car would as cool as a 58 Plymouth?

A ford crown vic? A chevy A Toyota camry? A honda civic? A mustang? please... a Camaro... yuck...

You could get some extra ticket sales by "fast and furious-ing" Christine... Like watching Christine catch a Lambo and kill the guy in it at 180 mph, I would watch that

Get the police involved and Christine kicks some arse in Chase scenes... shoot outs, rocket launchers... etc. Cops trying to catch Christine, plotting against her, setting catch traps etc...

Unless you simply just "do-over"... with it taking place in the 80's or whatever.

So you go back to the 58 Plymouth... While this would do wonders in resale value for those of us with 58 plyms, it couldn't just rehash and they could "fix" the ending I hope

Steve King on Carrie..

Upon hearing of the new adaptation, King remarked, "The real question is why, when the original was so good?" He also suggested Lindsay Lohan for the main role and stated that "it [the film] would certainly be fun to cast".

I don't think Christine was that well written, the first half of the movie was pretty good, the hunting down was fine and the ending scene was horrible...

I mean he simply falls out of the car and dies... They phoned it in... pathetic. So your only choice is to update it with 58 Plymouths, and put real writers on it and make the story great.

Or have Christine "arise" again somehow... But there is no "twists" in the story? not that todays audience really cares I guess since they go and see F&F 15 and its gets dumb and dumber every time...

I honestly think they could make the money back on the film Just make it cars and destruction... Toss in way better writers, go back to more of the book, Lebay is inside driving the car as a ghoul... Push the draining Arnies life force more

The book was way better and maybe use alot of that but we all know what happens.

I mean the IT movies are crushing it... maybe it is Time for Christine 2...

I have not read the book, but have always thought of the movie as very well done. The casting of Arnie,Darnell,Buddy,Moochie, etc the production value at the time was way ahead. I know what you mean about fast n furious ing it up. The idea of it can't be made again because you can't touch the original? The story works because the plot is as simple as a evil 58 Plymouth that kills people and destroys things

Mike, you certainly do dish out a lot of your own cynicism for current "social trends"
to be calling my cynicism and mocking of the stupid stuff that goes on as the nuevo
PC buzzword "hate". I reserve my "hate" for things like cancer and violence against
innocents. I am just poking fun at the BS that the "money machine" media and
entertainment industry spoon feed the masses as "substance". Put on your humor
hat and have a laugh. The best comedy is just getting up in the morning to see what
sort of crap they will pitch today !

But to the point, why couldn't the 58 Plymouth be resurrected for a sequel ? Because
too many years have gone by and no one can identify with a 58 Plymouth ? My 20-something
employees blow me away for all they are unaware of that is ordinary to anyone born before
1970. Maybe it would need to be updated ? I don't know. Doing so would surely kill my
interest in the idea, but might be just the ticket to get the Gen X and younger crowd interested ?

I think you are right, ... the original was OK .... best for its car scenes more than anything.
Darnell and LeBay were edgy and made that part fun. But the obligitory love interest was
cheesy and the ending was, yeah ....anti-climactic. The crushed square of car left the door
wide open for a sequel. Why not ? Get some good writers and take the best aspects of the
original and build on it. I'd go see it. Just leave out the hyperflash movement that seems to
be all the rage to create excitement on the screen these days. That slow 4-wheel-drift into
the gas station was breathtaking. Something is lost when everything moves at blur speed.

Yeah the book left it open for the sequel also... The book was from Arnies friends perspective and I think he later says one of the other guy who got away died years later in a car wreck.

not sure how you get Christine to unfold... maybe she has some arnies life force left to get back to a "form of a car" then exhausts it for decades and sits in a junkyard for decades, waiting... similar shape as when he bought it off lebay.

They put the block in the truck, opening the truck to find a non cube but still heavily damaged trashed car, it wont fit on the conveyor to melt down, so a local scrapper picks it up for his yard and it sits there getting picked over a bit.

A bird lands on the engine bay looking for bugs... the trashed hood smashes it... it slowly screws in a bolt a bit...

I wouldn't mind seeing a well made prequel. Let us see what happened to Christine from the time of Mr. LeBay's purchase until his death. It would be cool to see the car in it's original environment, surrounded by other late 50's makes.

A prequel, good idea!!!! I don't know if the original was considered a box office success at the time ? when a movie reaches certain box office success there is usually a sequel planned. I'm thinking that one was never made because finding 25 more 58s would have been difficult, even back then. Hollywood makes movies for the masses. If you drive ANY car with a fin somebody will ask if it's a Christine ? Explaining how Christine gets from crushed cube to full size is explained by the wiggle in the grille in the end.

we know what happened with Lebay, he was an ahole, he got drunk beat his wife, christine/lebay killed his kid and wife because they didnt like his car?.. he died... the only thing unexplored is him not killing or killing his family. Did his daughter accidentally die? Did he kill her and then his wife?

from Wiki
Dennis speculates that LeBay may have deliberately sacrificed his daughter and wife to make Christine a receptacle for his own spirit?

Didnt really see any of this... through voodoo? Ritual? I dunno. The book the focus was Lebay's evil spirit, not the car being evil inherently.

Lebay in the book is a ghoul/spirit in the car, and he's taking Arnie over. They never put lebays ghost driving it when Christine was out on her own in the movie.

..In the book Lebay and the dead people were in the car driving around... So it wasnt so much the car, it was Lebays spirit(in the book).

The movie wisely simplified it and made the car the focus.

We really need to have another Christine movie. A lot more red '58 Plymouth 2dr hardtops need to be crushed! Round them up!

Seriously, I would like to see a movie done with a more unloved car like maybe a '60 Valiant or '52 Dodge. Let that become a craze so that people will value them like they do with the '58 Plymouth.

Why couldn't someone, after the block of crushed car "speaks to
them, stand before the crushed block of car like Arnie did, and say
the magic words "Show me", and have the car uncrush itself back
to original form, thusly setting a new chapter in the story in motion ?

With CGI, the heavy amount of destruction of cars would no longer
be necessary, so finding a bunch to wreck is no longer an issue.

eh thats a little to simple... who walks up to cars and goes "show me"?

The car is going on a conveyor soon to be melted down into slag... I would assume thats the end.. unless you go "okay his soul is in all the cars now made from this steel"... thats a little far fetched but could be a new twist... maybe a guy at the junkyard takes the front emblem off? It still has a small bit of lebays soul...

Like voldemort it takes time.

=================================

Um, .... Arnie, in the original movie ???

... a little continuity from the first, tying in to a sequel ???

So, the block falls off the conveyor and sits forgotten for a period of
time. Someone sees the self-bending part sticking out off the block
(the block "speaking" to the next "victim"), and like Arnie, he is possessed
and repeats the "Show me" call, and the car is reborn once again.
