Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | I was going through some old files of mine and came across this again. I was dead keen on buying this car. It was a victim of hurricane Katrina (I think that was it) and was going to be auctioned off. Not long before the auction was about to start, it was withdrawn from auction "for legal reasons" It was being auctioned on behalf of the insurance company and I think there was a dispute over the payout as the pictures revealed that it may not have been a runner when the hurricane hit, de valueing the car (bit of speculation there) Anyway, I wonder if it ever re appeared. My big concern was how fast it might have rusted away with the submerging in salt water it had (flood fury.jpg) (flood fury3.jpg) (SAM_0699.JPG) (SAM_0726.JPG) (SAM_0728.JPG) Attachments ---------------- flood fury.jpg (81KB - 152 downloads) flood fury3.jpg (86KB - 146 downloads) SAM_0699.JPG (127KB - 145 downloads) SAM_0726.JPG (101KB - 157 downloads) SAM_0728.JPG (194KB - 157 downloads)

Regular Posts: 84 | I really have my doubts on that stuff. Here my story. I located a really nice 57 Coronet out of the Houston flood. You could see the water line and It didn't get over the top of the engine. I paid a registration fee to a broker so that I could bid. I bought that car 4 times on live auction and at the last minute the insurance company would pull the car. That went on for 6 months and the price kept going up. It was not a stunning restored show car, just a decent driver originally. I was not stealing it either, the last bid was 8 grand. They pulled the car again and it disappeared off the auction that time. I could not trace it through the insurance company. I cashed my permit out and will never again play their games. However there is an amazing amount of classics and street rods on those flood auctions. Getting one bought with the games played is the trick, there is lots of insider behind the scenes deals.

Regular Posts: 90 Location: Oklahoma | The insurance company runs them through an auction like Coparts to get an estimate of what it's worth in its current state when the owner wants to buy back the car after it's totaled. That means the original owner probably still has that Fury. Edited by 61imp 2018-11-18 5:05 AM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | Nope, Never actually went up. It was pulled just before the start of the auction Steve (FIN_NV) went and looked at the car for me and sent me plenty of pictures, so I know it was a real car I can just picture it in some storage yard somewhere rusted to pieces, kind of sad

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7806 Location: Williams California | I've bid on vintage car on CoPart several times, and each time the auction was pulled before its end. Not wasting time anymore with their games. ---John

Expert Posts: 4037 Location: Connecticut | Maybe not Hurricane Katrina, which was in '05, but Hurricane Sandy ? I think this car was the one purchased by Hagerty, restored, and then run in Last Year's Great Race. Ron Edited by ronbo97 2018-11-19 1:36 PM
