I would bet that the wiring diagram is in the service manual but hiding in plain sight. I had to open up my 56 Dodge FSM and page it a bit until I found what you would need in a 55 FSM. For the 56 Dodges, the heater and defroster motor wiring was 14 Gauge and "black" (black threads in a beige covering??).

thanks 56d500, I found part of the diagram in the accessory chapter but doesn't show the gauge. my electrical section shows diagrams for lighting, starting, ignition, wiper and power seat. I may thumb through each page and see if its there. thanks!!!

The 56 Dodge FSM showing the 14 gauge could be used as your guide. 14 Gauge is pretty stout. However, if you are concerned you could go to 12 gauge. I think 10 gauge would be over kill.

IF you find the correct diagram in your 55 FSM, please scan it and post it up here. For that matter, you might want to scan the other 55 FSM electrical diagrams and post them up here. I am going to start a 55 and 56 Electrical diagram thread very soon and your info would help.

There aren't too many 55 and 56 Dodge (or Plymouth, etc) guys on this forum so anything we post up could help us and the few others that are here.

Just a thought.

You can use the AWG 14 gauge as original, but you could also install relays for the heater fan.

The schematic below id for '60 Chrysler, but it's the same principle - this way you'll have no voltage drop to the heater fan and the relays can be easily hidden.

I remembered that I had a 55-56 Plymouth FSM pdf in my archives so I took some of the wiring diagrams from it and started a new 55-56 Dodge and Plymouth Wiring Diagram thread. If I missed anything, please add it too the thread.

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=70141&...

I found the 55-56 Plymouth heater wiring diagram and was surprised that, as you said, there are no wiring gauge notations on it. 14 should work fine.
