...and spring special of course. Everyone knows all convertible were made in the spring with all the spring special parts on them. Which is unfortunate, because on the Dodge, the spring special trim makes the car uglier IMO.

spring trim is a bit to thick imho, overdoes it a bit.

If past cars are an indication of future cars, this could be a mess. I believe this is the same restorer who sold a 59 dodge convertible a few years back that has had to be totally redone. I really want to check the plates on this as I'm VERY curious what vin it is riding on, as I have some thoughts on that as well.

Have any of you seen this car before restoration? I have a few photos of it.

Post some up for the curious.

Obviously, the engine is a 361 not a "360". Interior looks pretty correct. Not sure about the location of the D500 badge on the left side.

It originally had a D500 badge on the trunk, but the placement is not correct. Drivers side placement was correct for 1958. The engines were stamped 360, but of course advertised as a 361.

Larry Swedal and son also restored a 59 Dodge CRL convertible. Two tone pink in correct colors. Car was pretty bad, but not like this one. They restored it to better-than-new condition. Pretty sure they still have it.

Sure make me do the math to check this out.

4.12" bore x 3.38" stroke x 8 cylinders = 360.489 cubic inches. Hard to market that. Better to go with 361 instead of 360.

I guess.

By the way, that is one heck of a restoration. What could they keep from the body? Not much? The firewall and the build plate ??

Yikes!!

WOW, beautiful. Red, white, and black.. that tri-tone color combo has to be pretty rare for 57-59 cars?

I don't think they do and I think that car had to be re-restored.

I'd like to see the vin tag on this car, anyone have a picture? Claiming it has a real super D500, which isn't the case, but maybe a D500?

I love the starting out of the description as "rust free". I guess if you have nothing to start with, it's technically rust free.

Notice how the convertible top folded sits up way too high. Probably used non convertible rear wheel wells. May just used an entire hardtop donor shell.

Dodge could have went with 361 since Edsel used a 361 that year on the junior series cars. Dodge and DeSoto were competing against them in the market place.

Wow. Good catch.

I never would have thought of that but yes, the rear wheelhouses for the Special Coupes and the Coupe Convertibles were different.

It definitely wasn't an original "Spring Special" by the mangled car in the photos. My bet is that the donor hardtop was.....

I sincerely doubt the engine is numbers matching or correct as it states, the valve covers are 59+ and so are the cylinder heads, notice the battery ground, no threaded hole there in 58 heads, the ground cable went to the front most intake manifold bolt on the left side.

Jeepers!  Kudos to them for even getting that pile to roll again.  Considering what they started with, it looks fantastic.

Not a D500 car. Data plate on the car is a repop. AG Backeast or ? Car was likely 361/4bbl. But car was a mess. I saw photos of the car before restoration. Either engine was toast, or didn't have an engine at all.  They decided to build it up to Super D specs. They were pretty open about that.

Now if they sold the car and it ended up at an auction, all sorts of claims could be perpetrated in an effort to move the car.

Ron, was the cowl plate falsified/fabricated and recreated by A.G. Backeast? I thought they were mighty careful to not to do that!

Those exhause ports look like the J.C. Whitney repros!

Bid was 145 before commission. By the time you get it home, pay commission and your states taxes, around 165 all in.

``when it looks like this`` of-course it needs a donor body ,a lot of work done her (massive),and correkt done whats the problem (if your open w it ) the car is even better then from faktory if properly done, ok no matching nr ,``so what ,``the car is saved and many people can enjoy it at shows etc etc, , is it better to cruch it ,, yes for those who always wants to buy and make money , and they are NOT serious-car people, Flipper , go and wheel and deal w stocks instead,``if dont like dont buy `` no harder it is my few cents ,probbly gonna get s**t for this ,but i wash it off ..

Wow. There was almost nothing left of that car to start with. They did an amazing job considering.
