| Just wondering what your opinions are of the adding of options to your car. Does help or hurt the value and desirability of the car.?
For example, I have 3 61 Furies. Between the 3 they have EVERY option available except crossram and I may add that?
I would never part any of them but,would like put all the options on the best one.
Is this a good or bad idea?
Or should a FL be restored to the exact details of a IBM card ?

| Do what YOU wanna do. Add what you wanna add and enjoy the heck out of it. I wouldn't worry about value/desirability down the track, chances are you aint gonna win on it financially either way.
To me, in general, for most, the value of these cars is going one way, down, or at best in some cases remain static.
Cars are not a great investment in dollar terms, but they're fantastic investment in your personal happiness.
My 2 bits worth.
Now we'll hear from all the multi-millionaires who made their fortune from cars..............

Location: New Castle PA | My opinion is to leave them as they came, more for historical reasons than anything else. I agree that cars are not usually good investments considering all the hours of work put into them. |

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | I would keep a rare one as it came from the factory, that said, I have added almost all the available options on my car.
It's interesting and challanging to find the old options, renovate them and get them to work again.

There was an article in Hagerty's weekly news about the value of '50s cars going down. I feel it's inevitable as those of us old enough to have or remember them new get old and shuffle off this planet, and that will be exacerbated greatly if there's major issues in the economy, which folks tend to forget is cyclical! |

You also won't increase it.

If the car is a rare model, I would say leave it as it came from the factory, otherwise,knock yourself out.Either way you're unlikely to make any money at the end of your stewardship when you sell it on.Just so long as you don't try to sell a clone for real deal money; that would be fraud.

Location: Northen Virginia | I added a converted RCA record player, and FM radio, a mirrormatic which is inoperable waiting for a electronic conversion and safety belts. Anything else would probably need to drill holes and that is my limit. Cutting these car dashes is beyond what I would like to do to the car..
I have the auto-dimmer, and auto-pilot but those are holes I don't want to drill.

Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | I like adding options.... On my 60 Saratoga I've added a Mirror-Matic, rear window defogger and RF fender mirror. If you want to make sure your car matches the OEM built sheet then don't do it. On the other hand, if you own a Canadian built Forward Look all the build records were destroyed so have fun adding the options!! |

Location: Hay Lakes, Alberta, Canada | My car is being re-bodied, and since it isn't "numbers matching", I decided to add period available options, and build it as I wish I could have ordered it from a dealer. The only non-period mod will be the front disc brakes. |

Location: Valley Forge, Pa. | I think most people will add an option IF they stumble on something rare like the "Truck radio just sold for $1500". A thread I just saw somewhere else in this forum.
Most of us like to go somewhere where there are knowledgeable people and have them say "wow, that's a rare option".
Some of us will add options that make the car safer such as seat belts, P.S., P.B., ect. and some may like to add for convenience/comfort such as
P.W., air, radio, heater, ect. Personally, my favorite option on my Suburban is the power rear window. IF my car didn't have it, I would find one. Oh, and P.S. + brakes.
I really thought about a roof rack and the 3rd seat but those options would mean holes in the roof and lost of spare tie space.
I wouldn't hesitate to add a grill guard or record player IF I found either at a nice price, just because. |

Location: So. Cal | I added the 3rd seat option to my '70 Satellite wagon. It was a great addition when I was hauling around 4 kids and their friends. My kids had a blast watching all the drivers stare at them. But without the ability to use it, it would be pointless. Now that my kids are grown, I wouldn't bother with it for sure, and mine doesn't get used anymore. I am really wanting to add A/C to my '60 Chrysler. I am considering taking the glass out so I can cut the dash to install the original vents into it. But I would need a template to cut it properly. |
