Location: GREENEVILLE, TN | I read somewhere some was converting 2bbl manifolds into 4bbl manifolds by cutting out the 2bbl carb mounting flange and welding in a 4bbl flange. Has anyone else seen/ heard of this, or know what I'm talking about? Would like to convert my '57 DeSoto to 4bbl, can't use the aluminum intake from Hot Heads since its to tall and I don't think it will clear the hood on the DeSoto, and haven't been able to find a OEM 4bbl for a DeSoto yet. |

Location: Lower Mainland BC | I know nothing. However, I am *guessing* that it won't be easy to go from this:
to something like this (without a friendly, knowledgible and inexpensive machine shop):
(Not sure if this eBay listing is what you need or not: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/57-58-CHRYSLER-MOPAR-DODGE-DESOTO-PLYMOUTH-H... )

Location: So. Cal | Very doable now with good nickel welding wire. Heat the manifold up with a torch before you weld it too. Also possible to braze it together with a torch. Make sure the left and right ports remain isolated as they are now. The easy way to do it is to weld it to the top of your manifold and just drill holes in the right locations. But this does add some height to your carburetor. If you wanted to cut up a Chrysler intake I have a couple of them I would be willing to cut up for you if you pay me $100 in advance. But it would be easier IF you can find a steel flange already to go.

| I remember seeing a long time ago an adapter plate made by Cal Custom that bolted on to a 2 bbl intake for a 4 bbl spread bore to be mounted. But it was pretty thick. Welding cast iron is very tricky and not a lot of folks can do it. Talk to a machine/fabricator shop and see about having a plate made would be easier to me it seems. |

He is showing a 2 bbl to 4 bbl conversion for Desotos. However, since you have to send him your intake core, it probably doesn't matter that much which 2 bbl manifold it is that you want to modify. In this case, it is a Desoto, so piece of cake.
